''Many people in the county board are gravely concerned about the year ahead'' Are these the same people who tried to get rid of the manager before December with no alternative in place or reason as to why a change was needed? I wouldn't take any notice of what a lot people on the Meath county board have to say about playing matters, or any other matter to be honest. I'll take that as a no. Fact is you wouldn't be on here getting carried away if we won well last night or this weekend in nothing pre season games so why get carried away when we lose in a nothing pre season game .

You are ignoring the fact that Harry Hogan will more than likely be the number one choice Goalkeeper, but was not used last night as he was carrying an injury. You are also ignoring the fact that his brother, Billy Hogan, has been brought into the squad and he is coming off a successful 2020 minor squad. So Colgan is not Meath's only choice in goal, and Colgan is also a very good goalkeeper and if you looked at the club championship in Meath you will notice he is better most of what is out there. But don't let the truth get in the way of a good narrative.

So ? If i read you correctly you maybe expect a good outcome to this year ? What is that optimism based on ? It seems we continue as we were ..so more of the same. Same old basic mistakes we have tolerated for years now. Clearly the manager has done his best fair play to him. But his best is not good enough full stop ! Some of us thought the review for 2021 would address matters with a view to improve matters. Then we know what happened with the review. Just calling a spade a spade please tell us what has happened that is designed to remedy the faults that the dogs in the street know about. Please inform us what you know has happened . Is it not the case that more of the same will bring the same outcome ? Just asking!

you misquoted me there BJ14. I said many people in the county are gravely concerned. I never mentioned the county board brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 13/01/2022 15:14:12 2394766 Link 11 |
No matter what spin is put on it, last night was another poor preformance, its not like this is a once off that can be put down to the usual setbacks experienced this time of year. Tyrone excepted-coming off A/L celebrations and foreign holiday-most other results are going the way we would expect, these teams are also short many first team lads, so early season is not a valid excuse for us. Scored five points from play, conceeded another dreadful goal, and manager making his usual excuses, while telling us he dosent know reasons for yet another below par display, all too familiar in recent times. For second year running the draw in league has been kind to us, made a complete mess of last year and only the most optomistic will expect anything to change this year. Will contine to live in hope. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2196 - 13/01/2022 15:15:49 2394767 Link 19 |
I'm not ignoring those things at all. And I really rate Billy Hogan and think he's a brilliant prospect. But why didn't he play last night then. You say Harry Hogan was injured, did he pick that up in the warmup because he was warming up. Colgan may indeed be better than the rest of the clubs keepers and a back up goalkeeper to either of the Hogans. But we've seen him and know he isn't good enough. And Andy also knows he isn't good enough, in back to back championships he's dropped him for both Marcus Brennan and Harry Hogan. I'd have much rather seen Andy Beakey, Sean Brennan, Dean Pluck or Billy Hogan tried last night rather than Colgan. So yes he may not start the league. But playing him in an experimental game rather than trying somebody who we aren't sure what they can be at county level is a mistake in my eyes.

In reply, no i wouldn't get carried away, but when you see the same issues over and over again and no remedy for them from a manager leading this team for his sixth season with mostly the same squad of players and is unwilling to address them, and people like RD and LR who are saying how concerned they are I wouldn't consider the concerns i have as being unfounded. As i said the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Are Menton and Jones injured ? If so will they be back for the league ?

Thats a great word " HOPE" We have lived on that for years now .Enough is enough ! For things to change we need change. Start with learning from mistakes. Andy does not know how to do that . So we need someone who can ! But then our top table are charged with the resposibility to oversee and do what is necessary to bring improvement. The REVIEW could have covered all that. AH.....i give up.. Over and out ! We live in HOPE ! On 2nd thoughts no that is already used up ! Remember the ladies team could teach us a lesson...again !

Well said LR, fully concur with you. Colgan at this stage is his own worst enemy. 6 seasons with the panel and dropped more times than anyone can count. How he keeps coming back for more beggers belief. Lets not forget how ruthless Andy can be, he hauled Dominic Yorke off after 35 minutes of a league match, replaced him with a corner forward and disgarded Yorke from the panel. Everyone in the country knows what Colgan is but somehow this manager can't see passed him. Unfortunately LR Colgan might start the league and you'll have both Hogan's twiddling their thumbs in the stand. Sean Brennan is a keeper who's been performing well for the past couple of years and is surely worthy of a chance in a game like this.

In all fairness why would we put this team out. They have been tried and tried again with no success. Not one new face in it, Time to move on and blood some fresh faces.

Jones is having ankle surgery and menton should be available for the league.

Well in reply I wouldn't be over reacting about a performance in the O'Byrne cup either way. Good or bad. I will wait and see how we get on in meaningful games like League and Championship before I press the panic button and write off this season.

In all fairness, AMac's job has been in question since his first year. This is not a witch hunt BUT, as stated here by the masses, it's worrying that this looks like it'll be the same **** show again! There's an obvious failure to try new players (some Sigerson lads aside), instead opting for a combination of prior year's proven players and more frustratingly, the tried and tested players that continue to fall short of requirements! (they've named here already).

That's fair and respect your opinion on things. I would ask the question of you though would you not be slightly fearful that the same trends as have been happening for the past couple of seasons are still happening in this game. Now i grant as a few have said maybe they're going through some heavy training and aren't overly interested in this competition which is fair but we need to hit the ground sprinting in the league as Division 2 is a shark tank this year. There will need to be a dramatic improvement in two weeks time v Galway and hopefully that's forth coming and unfortunately based on what information is available to us i don't hold a lot of hope, brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 13/01/2022 16:55:00 2394798 Link 15 |
"an obvious failure to try new players" new players who played yesterday: Gavin McGowan, Niall Kane, Saran O'Fionnagain, Conor Harnan, Keith Curtis, Danny Dixon, David Mcentee, Jordan Muldoon, Adam Kealy. Apologies if i forgot anyone. And this is not to mention a couple of more lads he will be trying like James O'Hare, Billy Hogan and Aaron Lynch. Some of this criticism of andy is totally unfair. redser123 (Meath) - Posts: 404 - 13/01/2022 18:00:57 2394805 Link 2 |
