Very impressive wing back especially going forward , saw him versus Summerhill in Feis cup in trim was brilliant , Thought against Na Fianna he was a lot more defensive and not as good but v Ratoath was back to his best . He is a standout player for me and needs to be tested at a higher level to see what he could do

He got roasted twice against Kells and was replaced both times. Not within a country mile or being a country player. Will have to double his work and shooting to even break even against Dunboyne.

Would agree with people looking to see Aaron Lynch, Niall O Reilly and Cathal Finn given a run out in the O Byrne Cup. McCoy also deserves another go, he's flying at the moment. UsernameInvalid (Meath) - Posts: 409 - 26/10/2021 14:26:49 2387454 Link 0 |
Agh he's from North Meath, he's not good enough, simples.... I jest of course I think we've some really good WHB in Cathal Hickey, Fionn Reilly, Donal Keoghan, James McEntee, Matt Costello and Padraic Harnan so it might not be easy for him to break into the team but no harm in taking a look. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 26/10/2021 15:33:51 2387463 Link 9 |
Would agree with Conor Carton, he fills a position of need for us as we are short on quality Corner backs, I dont think Seamus Lavin is playing next season either so would be good to add Conor in. James Ohare of Rathkenny looks sure to be involved too.

Cathal hickey and seamus lavin both going travelling next season last I heard, and Shane mcentee away for a large chunk due to work commitments. Thats half our starting defence gone

James O Hare ( rathkenny ) , Niall O Reilly ( Tones ) Sean Rafferty ( Na Fianna) & Sean Ryan ( dunboyne ) all quality club defenders and should be looked at if 3 or 4 or regulars leaving for the year

Wow, that's a huge blow to us if Hickey and Lavin are going travelling. TBF Shane hasn't missed many games over the years due to his job and despite my reservations about him losing a player like that as a bench option is huge. If we're losing Lavin i think Donal Keoghan will be moving back to corner back for sure.

If Hickey is gone as well as Lavin that's an absolutely huge loss. Hickey was one of the brightest spots last year and is only 20 so should get even better. Selfishly from a Meath point of view I hope that isn't the case

Makes it worse hickey could have played 20s if he was goin traveling next year Borderroyal (Meath) - Posts: 496 - 27/10/2021 13:10:52 2387585 Link 0 |
If true and I don't doubt you on this, getting Shane Gallagher, Niall Kane and having James McEntee fully fit for 2022 would be a nice fillup. if all three players are missing then we'll have a very different look to our 2022 starting defence and we'd be lacking an out and out man marker so unfortunately you'd really need Donal Keoghan to drop back to corner back especially if Shane Gallagher isn't available. Looking at the options we could have we'd maybe have something like this available to us 2 D Keoghan - E Harkin 3 C McGill - R Ryan 4 S Gallagher - J Muldoon 5 J McEntee - N Kane 6 P Harnan - 7 F Reilly - As Bear10 suggested James O Hare ( Rathkenny ) , Niall O Reilly ( Tones ) Sean Rafferty ( Na Fianna) & Sean Ryan ( dunboyne ) might all need to be looked at. Add in Gavin McCoy and Conor Carton too and for the life of me can never understand Brian McGrath from Simonstown not getting looked at. Would John Lavelle from Sumerhill be another worth considering, he seems to consistently perform for them over the last 2 years. I mentioned Oisin mcCloskey but someone has indicated he's going off to play rugby so isn't an option for us. Would Jack O'Connor (Curraha) and Jack Flynn (Ratoath) be potential players for the half back line or are they more likelt to be forward and midfield options. Would Harry O'Higgns or Conor Harford from last years U20's be up to it at senior level? I'm not saying any or all of the above are the solution to problems but at least some are worthy of consideration, before I'm accused of naming 30+ junior standard players ;) if all of those aren't options we could always look at redeploying Brian Menton and Matthew Costello in to the back line, but is that robbing Peter to pay Paul? brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 27/10/2021 14:55:33 2387606 Link 5 |
If most of those lads played underage for meath there surely above junior standard and must get at least an invite to panel.

Border, that's a running jibe another poster has at me about naming junior standard players falling out with Andy or dropped themselves off the panel, when most of the players i suggested play for senior clubs. ;) brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 27/10/2021 17:51:08 2387643 Link 5 |
Folks, any update on David toner being back for 2022? Was away in 2021 travelling but hadn't heard his name mentioned? And is Robin Clarke also another option for defence, he played a good bit before Covid in 2020. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 28/10/2021 14:13:03 2387721 Link 5 |
One player hardly ever mentioned - Gavin McGowan from Ratoath. In my view he has been one of Ratoath's most consistent performers over the past few years - despite having had some injuries! I think he is certainly worth a look! People seem to think that because he has played hurling for the county he can't play football but I bet he would if given the chance!

There won't be pre season tournaments like the O Byrne Cup. Gaa is pulling the plug on them to restructure calendar and giving players time off FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2837 - 28/10/2021 15:46:10 2387741 Link 0 |
