Meath V Longford 4Th July 2021

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Incredibly nervous at this one. Looking at the team we are really lacking height brawn and most importantly brains in midfield. Andy should be on his knees grovelling to get a calibre of a midfielder like Flanagan or Rooney back for this one.

Can't see how we will win this if we can't get a foothold in midfield. Everyone and their cow knows we only run through the middle with strong runners like Keogan and Menston.

With them missing maybe it's time to try something new and let it in long and direct and quick. Stick Devine on edge of the square and launch 7 or 5 hail marys onto his head. Longford certainly wouldn't be expecting that and if we got a few marks and goals it could really set us up for the win.

But alas I can't see that happening and I imagine we will go arse ways and end ways over and back the pitch and inevitably the ball will break down and we will be sucker punched and end up conceding and then blame someone biting a finger or not playing an extra minute even though there was 70 mins to actually win the game.

Anyways best wishes to Andy Shane and the lads and Longford to win by 5. Hope I'm wrong. Hon the Royal.

Distributed thru clubs I think. Good to see you back Royaldunne and good to know that your son is doing well which is most important. Best of luck to players and management tomorrow. It has been a difficult 2 years for many with the virus and unfortunately some families have lost dear ones-keep safe.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Ok I've decided to return for the championship. I want to sincerely thank all of you who sent wishes to my son (he's doing fine now thank god) and who also called out the behavior of a certain poster (I've only been reading up ). It means so much, so from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.

On the matter in hand, I am lucky enough to be attending this game tomorrow, I'll try to give updates if I can as things happen, but after 18 months of not been at a match , the occasion might get to me, if people would like I'll give a analysis tomorrow night after the game (I'll try to be non biased and take off the green and gold glasses.).
Anyway it's good to be back. And again thank you al, l even those from other counties. We may argue and fight and bicker over football but at the back of it we all have a thing called common decency that is the core of the gaa grassroots.
Hon the royal."

Spectacularly wrong on everything you said, great win for the lads , long time since we seen a meath team kick as many scores as that.

Good performances all around I thought. Keoghan tightened up the back line. Colgan kick outs were a improvement but still below what is required , but credit where it's due. The half back line was very good , joey wallace had probably his best game in a Meath shirt, Morris was excellent was was O'Sullivan, McMahon worked hard , Costello I thought also had a good game, hickey was motm in my opinion (but 3/4 others could have been) Shane Mc had a very good game. The inclusion of james mcentee added something that we have been missing for a while. He is just one of those players and his performance from the bench was outstanding. I honestly couldn't say any particular player had a really bad game, menton is obviously carrying a knock and he probably wasn't as good as he normally is.
Now the one huge negative. THE DRAW. I mean FFS.
That's some kick after a great performance.

Great win today. Game felt very flat though but we stuck to our game and didn't kick many wides. Andy proved right to make sure Cathal Hickey and Costello stay with senior team. I know we aren't out yet but I think Andy and most real supporters around the county can honestly say he has left the team in a better place than when he took over.

Its a pity we have Dublin next, I would have liked to get another crack at Kildare. They didn't look like world beaters even though Offaly would be a lot better opposition than Longford.

Any chance this game could be a neutral venue and not a home game for Dublin? Not that it will make much of a difference but think Croke Park should only be used for Leinster Finals and All Ireland Finals until things improve in competitiveness.
