Replying To Mike Hunt:  "Am I the only one who doesn't think COS had the amazing game many are stating here? I get he's a tremendous worker and a great defender who adds a lot to us defensively. Also, his effort can never be questioned, however, he gets turned over too many times for my liking. 2 to 3 times a game he puts the head down and sprints straight down a dead-end where he is turned over softly.

I understand this can cause panic in opposition defences and don't get me wrong I'd definitely start him. I just feel it's the one aspect of his game he could improve on. Against Dublin we just won't get away with turnovers while in an attack like this, what could have been a score for us will be a score for the Dubs as quick as a flash.

We've got away with things like this, poor kick-outs, and no consistent free-taker to date. The team is improving by the match and I'm more excited about this crop of players than any in recent memory. I just think to make the step to that next level where we can challenge for silverware things like this still need to improve."
I think COS had a good game Sunday he work socks. Got a good goal to, had a bit to do to get it, used his speed and strength. He is a good kick passer of the ball as well .to setup an attack.
But thing about COS he might never have that "perfect game"
Ie where he takes every chance, never losses possession, Its just the way his is. He is a off the cuff type of player. But your just looking a high return on what he dose. And if dose that, He will cause damage to the opposition.

I remember I was in Cork for the away match 2019. And I was right behind the Meath dugout. And COS took a long range shot, and you could see some of the Meath management with kinda putting there hands on the heads , as if to say why did go got that ??. But low and behold it went straight over, it was when the game was in the melting pot to It was a fascistic score. And then the mood had changed on Meath bench with fist pumps etc.

But this is what I am saying COS dose take high risks. Sometimes they come off sometimes they don't.
Yes, he dose tend go down blind alleys, from time to time. And it can be frustrating to watch, and miss chances etc. lately he has come on greatly IMO. I think if he was to cut out the mistakes he has the potential be one of best players in country.

But if COS plays like he did Sunday against Dublin, I would be more than happy with it.

Cillian is a super player and a top guy off the pitch too.
Have a lot of time for him.

This Meath team have some really good players - COS, Menton, McGill, Jones, Morris, Walsh and of course Keogan.
But if I am being honest - I am not too gone on your manager. But that is another story... ;o)

Special word for Shane McEntee, cops a lot of stick of times on this forum but he's been outstanding in last two matches. Fair play to him. Hardworking honest footballer who gives his all, regardless of talent, that's all you can ask for from a Meath player when they take the field.

Fair enough he did OK when no one was near him most of the time but I'd like to see how he fares at the weekend. But I disagree about 'giving it all' is all that matters, plenty of lads would give it their all given the chance, but to be starting nearly every game for meath you have to be good enough aswell.

Against kildare it was oretty much a carbon copy of the league game last year. Kildsre on sunday in first half nd in first half v kildsare in league 2019 kildares forwards were getting the better of Meaths backs.

In 2019 Meath v kildare game kildare were 5 up at half time
In 2020 Meath v kildare game Kildare were 6 up at half time

In both games Meath defence got control of kildare forwards in second half

In 2019 v Meath kildare scored 1 point in second half
In 2020 v Meath kildare scored 5 point in second half.

In both games kildare forwards had better of the Meath backs i first half. These are best set of natural forwards who I have ever seen play for kildare. Very comfortable on the ball natural forwards who will cause team problems. In both games in second half Meath defenders really got tighter. Yesterday Brian Menton came back to help defence in second half. And S McEntee played deeper as sweeper in second half.

The difference was in 2019 league game Meath forwards missed chance after chance after chance. Should have won by 7 or 8 or 9. Only won by 1 point. This year a new Meath forward line of Morris Walsh O Reilly Costello took their scores and scored 5 - 5 from 5 -8. Meath missed and missed in 2019 v kildare. In second half. On Sunday Meath took every chance they got becaude they have a new young exciting full foward line.

Who would you have starting ahead of him out of curiosity at the moment? Or last year?

Ethan Devine, seems to have fallen down pecking order dramatically, hope all ok with him, is there an injury

I take your point regarding talent but there are not plenty of lads who ear drink and sleep for the Meath senior team, fat from it in fact.

This bunch are a dedicated bunch but you'd be surprised at how many lads have turned down invitations to come and train with the panel or join the panel. Makes me laugh all the Kells lads on here and elsewhere despairing over absence of Kells players on panels and how better Meath would be with them when many of these same lads have turned down invitations and aren't interested in committing (which is perfectly understandable too).

A lot of these younger guys 21, 22 like Devine , Scully . Campion , Conlon etc are all around the same level and will get chances as time goes on but when on the pitch they have to take them . These are all super young players and it is about being patient and remaining positive and training as hard as they can . I have no doubt that these guys can manage this

serious competition finally....I agree Bear...seems to me that the way it is now, when you get your chance to have to grab it with both hands....as opposed to a few years back ..where it was harder to get off the team & panel than get on it

As the old saying goes Competition breeds success and that is exactly wat we need . We now have players starting & capable of finishing a game when needed. Nearly all of these players have played underage for Meath from 14's up and are used of the system that you don't always play .

I'd have James mcentee in all day when fit, harnan ahead of him too but it's hard to say as he does switch positions. Looked like a kind of a sweeper/free role and looking at the bench only b Conlon or devine really could replaced him the last day
, they look a little short at the back atm. I'd play Keoghan sweeper Sunday if that's the plan.

Well i agree re Harnan but that debate is irrelevant as he can't stay fit. How many championship games has he been available for in the last 3years? Not many I'd say. There's no doubt in my mind he'd be a mainstay in this meath defence if he was fit and available but he vert rarely is. James Mc I'm not so sure. Think he gets found out when he goes up the levels. Takes too much out of the ball and gets turned over frequently because of it. Harnan shane Gallagher and Niall Kane would be lads I'd have ahead of him but none are available. B Conlon not for me.
