Replying To Thejoeshow:  "Big game for this young panel on Sunday. Meath are threatening to take the next step and really develop into a side that can challenge.

Agree with all the positives and most of the negatives, kickouts remain an issue and composure in front of goals and free taking Altho I am less worried about composure in front of goals as it is improving each game.

Does anyone know if harnan is back training? I assume not as he wasn't in the panel."
Yes have to agree with the points you raised. I dont envisage the keeper solution is going to be rectified anytime soon or under Andy for that matter but that is what it is unfortunately and its not going to change.

I would be more concerned however with the Free taking and 45's. This is a crucial element of the game and was the one area we are lacking since Mickey Newman has vacated and donal leinahan is on the bench. This has to be resolved if we are to progress through the rounds.

Replying To brian:  "Yep Gillespie was a huge loss and I'd include Shane O'Rourke as a bigger loss. When he came in during 2007 he looked the real deal and in 2010 again too especially that Dublin game. Just never seemed to be injury free and became the player he could have been. The talent was there to see in abundance and he could've been spoken inthe same conversation of not higher than his father.

Another player I'd put into that same conversation is Michael Newman. He's from the same part of the county as me and I knew of him as a 14/15 year old and the talent he had. Unfortunately like Shane ad massive growing pains and injuries and we never got to see him in full flight. In 2013 and 2019 when he was almost injury free you saw the potential that was there.

If you'd had both of them at the top of their game for a couple of years in the teens we'd have been a lot closer to the Dubs, not saying we'd have beaten them but certainly would've given them a huge battle. Players like them could've brought on other players.

I'd not include Conor Nash as i think if he'd stayed in Ireland he'd have gone to Leinster Rugby as he was already in their academy and think they'd eyes on him as a future international. But who knows. Certainly would've improved things t have any of those three available in recent years."
Agreed on orurke and Newman too. Maybe even to a lesser extent forde. All would have been pivotal over the barren years and the years we just didn't seem to know what to do.

First off I agree. I presume the argument Andy is having with himself and indeed the selectors etc are having is do we put on a player who might not give as much to the system solely for frees 45s etc or keep what we have as not many 45s in games these days, and if the frees are close enough either Morris or walsh or O'Reilly can convert them.
My own wish would be to have Lenihan in. Who to drop though ?? That's the question, I presume it would have to be O'Reilly and just leave him in the square. I'd love to know other's opinions on this as I do see it becoming a problem, are Kildare gonna say look if Meath coming through foul them on the 40 as they haven't a free taker ?? For that reason I would start him the next day.

Its hard to know whats going to happen Sunday.
But a 1 point win will do just fine Sunday. Kildare gave us a right battering recent meetings in the league in Navan 2017 where they got too quick goals and went on to win well.
Which was quickly followed up by a mighty hammering in Tullamore. In
In 2019 Meath played Kildare in league things had changed however. Meath had come on allot, while Kildare seem slip back a bit. Still we struggled badly to beat them even thought, we where the better team we missed chance after chance. eventually getting a break getting a penalty and winning by a point. On paper I think we are the slightly the better team and going better in recent form. But its a local derby and sometimes they can take on a life of there own. and form can go out the window.
Its important we get of to good start this is something we have struggled with terrible starts against Dublin and Monaghan. Which ultimately cost us the games.
For me in Meath defensively the last day against Wicklow you can disregard it was arm chair ride for most of the game. Monaghan game is more of measure of where we are at. And we where carved up a number of times. And lots of sloppy defending also. We really struggled. And Monaghan lost to Cavan a team maybe similar to kildare. Maybe not firing on all cylinders but if given the chance will hurt you.
I seen some of the Kildare game the last day against Offaly, and they where poor enough. But I expect they to put that right the next.
They will not be that bad again Meath. No chance.
We going to need get of to get off to a good start. Put pressure on kildare shooting which we can do and have been doing recently against Dublin and Monaghan. start making more of our opportunities up front.
And kickouts we are making progress in this area we need this to continue.
And with a bit of luck we will come out the right side.

Not to really be a gripe on the kickouts but wicklow never tested us in this area.so its up in the air who will start at this stage of that plan we will say.
Whoever startd best of luck to them.
Kildare im imagining under o connor in croker will set up to kick ball to inside men.kerry type football
Looking from last week our fullback line bar mcgill wandered a way from goal.this i feel could be a problem.if caught on turnovers we cojld let in early goals.have we a team to beat kildare really think its there just the doubts for me are in those 2 departments.not bad players just see weakness on our part.

I really think we will beat Kildare we are a young hungry team that's on the improve every game I think it will be tight but really do believe we will win. a few years ago playing Wicklow we would win by 5 or 6 points. we demolished them last sunday we are getting more ruthless in front of goal with young hungry players and some competition for places so if you not performing someone will come on in your place pretty quickly meath by 5+

I am so excited for this game, the week is going at a snails pace wish it could just be game day. First taste of Croke Park for Jordan Morris. And first inter county senior start their for Jones, Costello and Walsh. Feels like the start of a new era, hopefully we can start it off on the right foot in Croker

Jonsey played against the dubs in CP a few years back

Yeah, came on and kicked one with the left with almost the last kick of the game. But it's the first senior inter county start there for Jonesy, Costello and Walsh. Walsh came on against Mayo last year obviously. Jones as you say in 2016 and he played a freshers all Ireland final there for DCU and then Costello played the minor semi final in 2018.

Team I would pick

1. Brennan
2. Lavin
3. McGill
4. Toner (but Hickey/Harkin waiting to get in. Toner needs to improve.)
5. Keoghan
6. Ryan
7. Costello
8. Menton
9. Jones
10. O' Sullivan
11. McMahon (Scully in after 50 mins)
12. S. McEntee
13. Morris
14. Walsh
15. Reilly
Wallace and Conlon waiting to get chance in full forward line so all need to be on their toes. Devine a tall option in half forwards and hopefully J. McEntee and Harnan available to play some part. Lenihan must be considered for frees if Reilly/ Walsh not firing.

Could be the same team as last week , but Kildare will be a lot stronger at half forward level and although Costello had a brilliant game last week , still not sure he is a defender so possibly Harnan to Centre back and ryan to the wing . would change keepers and possibly Lenihan to the corner instead of O Reilly . I know this is a hard team to change but Kildare are a bit different to Wicklow

Something I will be watching is how Cillan O' Sullivan gets on. There is a tendency for teams to single him out for rough treatment, And mostly get away with it. Ones that spring to 2017 against Kildare he flatted around the square. Mayo last year Colm Boyle pulled and dragged him the whole game. Mongahan game a few weeks ago he was concussed it maybe have accidental, But yet again Cillian got bad knock. Giving the expanses of Croke park this will suit Cillians power game. So fear he will targeted again.

Good player. Has a tendency to run down blind alleys and get exposed in the tackle. Presents opportunities for opposition. Being targeted should be a badge of honour and good players should thrive even more off that.

very very honest player , saw him in hurling county final 3 years back & I know its a different code, but was unreal playing as a "free" 6. Not sure he is what you'd describe as a natural forward , and hence the odd blind alley, but cannot fault his honesty & application

this is a stiff test. and it may be just a bride too far for us. Kildare are at least as far down the road as we are with regard to underage dev work done- if not even ahead of us. Only slight advantage we may have is that id like to think JO'C is still only getting to know the squad & vice versa. But id like to think that if we perform , and even if we come up short that we will remember that all is not lost here on sunday & Monday when we try to make sense of the result. Wish the lads all the best , wish the debutants a long & distinguished career ahead of them , and no matter what , I still see we are making progress, and I hope I feel the same on sunday evening .C'mon the Royal!

Im a big fan of his but I don't think he's a forward. He's an excellent tackler and v fast and strong. I think he'd be an excellent man marking defender.

Would anyone make any changes to starting 15. ?
I would probably bring in Colgan for Brennan and Conlon for O'Reilly. But I can see same 15 named.

COS has come on hugely in the past 2 years or so. He used to run up blind alleys cough possession frustratingly all to often. But in recent years he was been more consistent. It seems to coincide with Nallys arrival where we have more structure to our play. He has massive potential. I would love to see him go on the rampage one the days.

Would go for same as last week but a few lads pushing. Hickey, Wallace, Scully and Banty likely to come in at some stage and hopefully Harnan will be listed. Would stick with Brennan in goal for now.
