Very quiet on the hurling front, any ideas of a team named for the Kerry game? butterfly (Meath) - Posts: 112 - 24/10/2020 17:18:52 2300839 Link 1 |
Big ratoath contingent. Surprised Douglas not even on panel Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 642 - 24/10/2020 20:19:13 2300936 Link 0 |
I presume he must be injured. He was listed on the full squad that was in the Meath Chronicle this week. Otherwise a strong enough team. link hurlingroyals (Meath) - Posts: 45 - 25/10/2020 08:51:08 2301054 Link 0 |

Very poor second half , could not get the ball to stick in the forwards. hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 425 - 26/10/2020 17:39:23 2301712 Link 0 |
Lacking forwards big time, a lot of ball went in but was wasted or came straight back out. Poor team selection and tactics when with the wind in the first half. Also the bench was very weak on Sunday, guess that's all that's available to the management team which is disappointing considering the progress over the last few years. toon (Meath) - Posts: 247 - 27/10/2020 10:12:47 2301878 Link 0 |
Might be a bit harsh lads with some of your comments, Douglas, Magown, Kelly all due back this week I believe, these will be 3 starter's I think who will strengthen the forward line, Healy out long term, Gannon just got married and then if Toher gets back he will be an option aswell both backs and forwards. What is Healys injury ? We are lacking his leadership and ball winning ability upfront. If Gannon, mcgowan, douglas, kelly back be big help. I dunno about Toher, he hasn't done anything for Meath since 2016 always injured or something wrong. ODonnacha is very dangerous player upfront but needs a Healy, McGowan or Douglas to work of same as potterton Slimbob (Meath) - Posts: 26 - 27/10/2020 15:23:08 2302093 Link 0 |
There were a number of issues on Sunday. The biggest issue was the inability of the team to convert the shots on target. Second was the inability to get to breaking ball. And then there was the turnover ball handed to Kerry by overplaying the ball or missing passes. All simple thing to address. There was a big difference on the scoreboard, but reduction in error rate and increase in intensity in getting to the 50/50 ball would reap big rewards and push the team closer to the contenders for the McDonagh Cup. The team was a little light on the marquee players so not really all doom and gloom. 3feetoftimber (Meath) - Posts: 113 - 27/10/2020 17:20:30 2302161 Link 1 |

I think one of Kerry or Antrim will make the final. Two very good teams. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 835 - 29/10/2020 22:14:09 2302978 Link 0 |
I am not at all happy that our first two fixtures were away. It actually is round 4 before we have a home game. We could well be out of contention before there is a match at home. I know with five teams involved somebody has to have a bye each round. Carlow had a bye round 1, then had a home game round 2 and are home again round 3. Surely it could have been possible to have Meath at home for their second game while switching one of the last two "home" games to be an away game so that each county have two home and two away but where possible be home and away or visa versa for the first two games. But then again the GAA authorities have never treated those secondary competitions with anything other than distain and when such distain catches up with them they simply bully the participants in order to correct their mistakes. And by the way in today's politically correct climate "bully" is a strong word but I am standing by it. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 04/11/2020 21:42:34 2305222 Link 0 |
You're making a mountain out of a molehill here, and "molehill" is a stretch to begin with. If we're out of contention by our 3rd game it's because we'll have gotten 0 points from 4, not because of any home/away split. Carlow is a ~90 minute drive from Navan and there's no crowds allowed so I don't see how playing there is such a disaster. Since beating Kerry in 2017 we haven't beaten a single one of the teams in the Joe McDonagh in the league or championship, home or away. Swapping the order of home and away fixtures wouldn't make a difference. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 05/11/2020 11:17:21 2305274 Link 17 |
as a starting point, need to stop seeing ourselves as second class citizens , and then others will start to see us different. and that goes within our own county as much if not more than outside

Murtagh played last 2 games. Hopefully we will have gannon mcgowan kelly healey douglas back, that's probably the best of what was missing against Kerry

All I am saying is that with a 4 game schedule it is possible to have a mixture of home and away not 2 away to begin with and then 2 at home. Just a little more thought required from officialdom.
