What a man. Will be remembered as one of the greatest Meath men of all time. Possibly the greatest. I went into his practice as a 3/4 year old with chronic bowel issues; 2 or 3 weeks later I was healed for life. This was at the height of our powers as a county, and the man did so much for so many of us. Love live the Royal.

It was a very emotional documentary regarding his personal life which i would never have knew about, he did great things for Meath football however i still think he underachieved, them teams between them should have won another two if not three all Irelands during that period and i was not happy to see one player been part of the documentary as he caused a severe split in the dressing room in 1991 resulting in poor results in the following few seasons. We were very fortunate to win an all Ireland in 1996 but that team he built in my opinion was the best team in the country between 1997 and 2002 and we won just one all Ireland.

A absolute gentleman is Sean Boylan and has a beautiful family.

Not sure why you choose this time to say Sean should have won more All-Ireland's. Truth is Sean built those teams up to be able to achieve great things so wouldn't have got anywhere near them without him. We achieved far more in that period than anytime prior or since. Fact! Also everyone who contributed last night were heroes in the Meath shirt for many years so to blame an individual for a poor performance of the team isn't in tune with the general consensus in Meath. Meath were at an end after 1991 so the rebuilding process had to begin. Results were not gonna come straight away.

Put the pride back in Meath football, from 86 onwards when Meath played I always expected us to win. His first team was full of strong willed individuals and it took a man like Sean to get the best out of this talented bunch. One of a kind, genuine legend and gentleman, what a period we had between 86 and 2001.

I think this is very unfair.
Sean did brilliant to get 2 separate Meath teams to the very top.
Meath might have had talented players but having talented players is not enough. Many talented players don't develope into top players or top teams.
Meath teams under Sean had a great spirit about them, Sean got something great out of his players.
Personally I always thought Meath team of 86-91 should have won at least 1 more All Ireland but was unlucky in some incidents (Mick Lyons breaking a leg in '89 when we were going for 3 in a row, injuries/ O'Rourkes sickness for the 1991 final). The only time I heard people saying Sean may have got it wrong was the 1990 final after Cork had O'Neill sent off.
I think the '96-2001 team were a great team but not quiet as good as the 86-91 team in my opinion. I know in Fay/ McDermott/ Giles/ Geraghty/ Murphy we had some of the greatest players of their generation but in some areas of the team Sean was able to pick out players who weren't obvious stars but Sean got them in and they did a job.
He was very good at this in my opinion.
For this team the circumstances in the build-up to the 2001 final were wierd (if I remember right the headline in the Chronicle that week was 9-11 attack not the All Ireland & all the coverage in the build-up to the final was all about what we did to Kerry in the semi final).
7 All Ireland finals and 4 wins, Sean gave us our golden age. When you read about where we were when he took over he did amazing things.

Its just my opinion

Do you honestly believe O'Rourke was sick in 1991 ? He came on and we 13 points behind and nearly bet them on his own !!

I have never heard before anyone else saying O'Rourke was not sick for that final (from memory after that final we went to the post match function in Malahide and O'Rourke was not to be seen, people there said he was in bed due to being sick). Also as far as I can remember I read O'Rourke saying (can't remember was it in has autobiography or in a newspaper article) he was sick for that final and McEntee, when selected to replace him, came to him to say he would not let him down and O'Rourke praised him for playing for living up to it by playing well in that final (O'Rourke and McEntee were very friendly due to playing for UCD together).

Do you honestly think he wasn't more like it. He was our leader up front and would have been a certain starter. He did make a serious impact but hadn't trained at all in the lead up and was only out of bed the evening before. Injuries to key players in defence meant we were short of O'Malley and Padraig Lyons for the final while Mick Lyons injured his knee just before half time. These were key reasons we lost this game. Not to mention Down had deadly forwards themselves including McCarton, Linden and Blaney.

I know what happened but let it be, lets just say o Rourke wasn't sick and Mcentee did not say that to him, the reason he wasn't in the hotel had nothing to do with been sick either.

Great watch, what a legend and gentleman Sean truly is, he brought unmatched success and joy to Meath football, unforgettable times.

You can easily see why he was so successful as a manager, his infectious enthusiasm and positivity is uplifting.

Really enjoyed the programme and to see the humour injected at the end was great, what was better was to see the wide acclaim for the programme and for Sean himself afterwards on social media until today when a piece by Tommy Conlon in the Indo sought to sully not just the programme but Sean and every Meath team he managed. By picking selective quotes from deceased journalists to blatantly accusing Martin O'Connell of deliberate intent v Tyrone in '96 the aforementioned Mr Conlon proved that there are still some very bitter and uneducated journalists out there who will still harp back to grievances dating back 34 years to 1986 when he quotes Paddy Downey as hailing the Leinster Final of '86 as "a great day for Meath but not so, alas, for Gaelic football" and highlights Barney Rock having his collar bone broken in a collision with Liam
Harnan as if it was a deliberate act. It really was pathetic stuff and to see a supposed respected sports journalist basically shitting all over the programme, Sean and the Meath teams he managed was in sharp contrast to the respect and appreciation everyone else showed towards Sean and the documentary.

Agreed. A very poor article by Conlon trying to diminish Meath's successes and the quality of football in general during that era while making a poor point about Kerry. Like most of the press he is actually still anti-Meath.

Get the Indo most Sundays but gave up reading Conlon years ago, often hear people asking if you have read this or that article from many sport journalists ,never heard his name mentioned before, as a sports writer he is of no significance. Best ignored.

If you want to 'let it be' stop dragging this sort of innuendo up. O'Rourke was Meath's best player so would have started if fit to start.
I can't find the copy of O'Rourke's biography in the house so can't confirm what I think I can remember O'Rourke'1s quotes about him not starting the 91 final but I found an interview O'Rourke did in a newspaper. He talks about getting pneumonia 10 days before the 91 final
and having to be brought in to hospital for tests. About his initial recovery and then his health taking a bad turn the Friday before the match and having to take to the bed. About medical advice (from team doctor Jack Finn as well as Gerry McEntee) being that it was dangerous for his health to play (he had lost a good bit of weight due to his bout of pneumonia). https://www.irishnews.com/sport/gaafootball/2017/08/23/news/colm-o-rourke-i-wish-the-ravages-of-time-could-be-slowed-down-so-i-could-still-play-1117737/
