Absolutely criminal to lose that game, where do you start!
Kicking away possession against the wind including ridiculous kick outs down the middle
Defending with everyone behind the ball when with a strong wind and still getting penetrated, putting no pressure on the man in possession.
Breaking at pedestrian pace the few occasions we turn over.
Forwards not probing at all going forward, just running up blind alleys
No structure to the forward play at all
In general there is absolutely no chemistry in the team at all, one doesn't seem to have a clue what the other is doing, management with serious questions to answer here
Got into a winning position that we scarcely deserved and to throw it up in the manner that we did is just mind boggling

Jesus, that's sickening and harsh. The hard work was there. Menton, Keoghan and McEntee immense again.

But as for the negatives; An unforgivable mistake from Clarke, who also culpable against Donegal too.

Brennan is far from our saviour in goals too. Absolutely no trajectory in his kick outs, just hoofed in the air. Even against the wind he did the same. And as we all know by now, our GKs are to be judged solely on their kick outs!

Going forward we improved a lot in the second half, but in the first half (and in a lot of games previous) we have a terrible habit of running the ball into the corners, getting trapped there and eventually losing the ball. Something has to be done in order to get into scoring positions quicker, and taking on shots sooner.

17 misses from play for Meath versus 10 misses from play for Mayo will tell you all you need to know.

How to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory .
Huge error from Clarke to gift the goal . Had a complete brain fart to do what he did.But the real disappointment is we are not learning .
Won't even comment on the goals ....
our corner backs gifted 1-2 to Mayo today . We were bet by a point !
James McEnter for all the good he does has to bring the all into the tackle and beat an opponent and gets turned over way too much . Scored a great goal but then had 2 very poor shots for points from positions that very few other teams shoot from .
Thought mid field did well .
Up front we lack real penetration and strength . Thought we should of let the call in to Walsh and O Reilly and test the full back line .
Cillian O Sullivan like Mcentee loses soo much possession from wrong choices and missed some scoreable chances
A win today would of given us hope as top of the table is only 4 points .
Now it looks like a lost cause and I would hope that Andy McEntee might use the rest of league to sort out the goalie crisis .
And if he can't do that well then do the decent thing and step aside and let someone else have a go .

We can't blame Clarke either he played well the referee missed the pull back on his arms it was blatant when he went to pass it. Not to mention how many steps they had before the goal. We should have had it won before then anyway at least we played well for spurts in the second half.

Where to start ,kickouts using the high tee in gale force wind is criminal down right stupid.and with a low one in his other hand.
Frees its blatantly obvious we dont have a real out and out one.so would it not b better to try to work the ball in especially from long range efforts.
Tackling was good tday defending for most part was excellent.but up front we need to practice shooting.
Hard road ahead now but if he uses players get them game time we could get a run goin in championship.

Clarke had no reason to do what he did. It is simply inexcusable.

But as a whole we should have won the game. Mayo landed 4 monster points from play in 1st half. Otherwise we shut them out.

We were woeful upfront in first half after getting into great position.

Second half for too pedestrian and rushed the wrong shots. 2 fantastic goals should have sealed it.

Once we got into the winning position we should have stayed there. Even at worst should have drew the game

Refereeing a disgrace. Some decisions were brutal and had a few awful calls against Mayo too

Fate has been sealed. Same old story however.

The refereeing was a disgrace at the end - he did not allow any additional time. Just contrast that to the Dubs last night.

Overall I was proud of the team. Donal Keoghan almost dragged us over the line. However, we miss too many scoreable chances and we need a consistent free taker. I wouldnt blame the goalkeeper but we are struggling retaining possessions from kickouts.

Definatly cannot say that every player didnt give %200 today and I must give them great credit for that but we still look like a team that met up in the car park for the first time .
When James Mcentee was allowed kick a 45 for us in the second half in front of our management team it says a lot about what's going on , with a gale the kick didnt reach the square .
Can honestly say we threw away this game to a poor mayo side .

I thought Clarke's arm was pulled as well. Where were all the defenders at that stage? That's when we needed to have a common sense approach and not all be caught too far out. With teams beating each other a draw would have been a great result even for the morale of the team. Much better than last week though.

I can give players credit for effort and heart and honesty but in terms of quality we would struggle in division 2 with the support of a very poor management who lack innovation and seems to have a love for the same few names every game the same few lads who can't score to save their lives . I'm sorry but we do not have a forward who can kick the ball over the bar ... we have a bunch of forwards who only know how to play a running game cause that's the only tactic implemented by management. We play with a gale force breeze you want prolific scorers on the pitch those lads who can effortlessly swing a ball over the bar from 30 yards and there all on the bench ... BRING THEM ON! You have 1. Lenihan
2. Dardis
3. Tobin
4.O'Brien
5. Banty
6. O ' Connor

All lads who we know can score all lads who would relish in those conditions all lads who could kick a simple free or be an option for a 45 and not having to have your wing back take an aimless swipe at one .

Beyond frustrating, we threw this away, silly errors cost us throughout the game. All the negatives have been mentioned, it was a brain fart by clarke that cost us 2 points. Going forward it was painful at times to watch.

There were positives however, midfield performed well and Jones and menton could be a strong partnership, Jones is settling in very well. Defensively we were solid and made life tricky for Mayo even with the wind, when we get Lavin and Harnan back we will be stronger again.

Devine played well when he was on and used the ball well, o reilly is making some great runs but no real end product yet. When we have all our players back, campion, Newman, lenihan we should improve.

Still No idea how we managed to Lose that game ! Mayo were good in the 1st half ! But 2nd were there for the taking ! We missed about 1-6 in the 1st half and So many bad wides and bad decisions in the 2nd ! We should have won by 6+ easily ! I know it was a messy day with weather and all but How many times were we turnover or kick the vall away ! None more so for mayos goal ! God almighty what was he at ! I thought Brennan did ok on a tough day ! We just dont have a top class goalkeeper avalible ! Conlan is a decent player but a disaster when attacking ! Was impressed with Menton and Jones ! With a couple of lads back in the back 6 ie..Harnan Gallagher and Lavin they will Improve ! Keoghan did well as always ! Devijr and Walsh Looked rusty and did very little ! Maybe Joey Wallace should have started ! Mcmahon walsh osullivan menton Oreilly all kicked dreadful.wides !
So its lights out and back to division 2 for meath ! Not suprised ! If we can get newman lenihan and the rest back for championship can see us improving alot

Sorry lads, hate to say it but the final 15 minutes when the game was there to be taken was a shocking indictment of this management team.

Leaving aside all the tactical shortcomings discussed daily here, wtf were they doing with O'SUllivan and McEntee going for vital scores from distance frees while Barry Dardis was kicking his heels on the sideline. I mean it was embarrassing to have no free taker on the pitch at such a vital time. Dardis is exceptional from placed balls (yet has not taken one for Meath since kicking over arguably the greatest free I've ever seen a Meath player kick in Croke Park last summer, 70 yards out, way over on the right) and we had the wind at our backs. What the hell are the management thinking standing there looking at James McEntee kicking a 45? (even Menton kicks them over for his club sometimes).

And Eamonn Wallace came on of course because that's what we needed, right? And what does he do? I'll say nothing more. As predictable as night and day.

As you say management decisions (or lack of them) is hard to understand. Total inability to read game and make required changes. What is the point of having a good freetaker on panel when there is no intention of playing him. In fairness the players cannot be faulted for effort and midfield was a big improvement on last two games. As usual we hear lame excuses (timekeeping) to cover up failings much closer to home.

Exactly.

Like ok, play the running game with o Sullivan, McEntee, Wallace's etc but then surely he can the mix it up and bring on something different in likes of Dardis, Tobin (another decent enough free taker), O'Connor, Costello - all of whom bring something else to the table other than running at the opposition like rugby league players.

You've a huge wind at your back, get lads in who can kick a score ffs!

Confidence is shot to hell. Andy doesnt have confidence in his players and players have lost confidence in themselves.
