Beakey is best keeper in county. But I still think maybe a little young.

Strange comment from manager about kickouts, very hard to see how we can progress until this serious long-term weakness is addressed. It is having a bad affect on all aspects of our game, we attempt to play a high tempo running game but inability to get ball away quickly and safely limits options and must be a real confidence drainer. Even when opposition hit a wide they now realise there is a very good chance they will get possession back from our kickout. So why not have a go.

what about the trim keeper Callaghan. Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 642 - 28/01/2020 19:44:02 2263289 Link 0 |
How do you have any clue who the best keeper in county is? You're literally just naming the Colmcille's keeper because he's from your club. Last year you were on main forum telling all and sundry how Ben Brennan was going to strike fear into the Dubs, we saw how that turned out. Graham was non existent in the championship last year ! Clearly out of his depth ! He would be gobbled up by division 1 teams ! Mcentee has let him go says it all really ! Dont really think you meant we needed him on sunday ! Because if you did it just pure bias ! Time for graham to pass the torch has come and gone !

Seen Beakey twice in championship last year and he didn't stand out. Kicked a couple over the sideline and was suspect under the high ball. UsernameInvalid (Meath) - Posts: 409 - 28/01/2020 21:09:53 2263324 Link 0 |
I have the impression that there are bigger issues with this team than the keeper. bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1807 - 28/01/2020 21:50:50 2263341 Link 4 |
Can I ask how someone can be the best in the county and at the same time a little young? If he's "too young" he clearly isn't the best in the county. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 28/01/2020 22:18:25 2263349 Link 18 |

I think mcentee made big mistake lets hope yhats the last major one makes.or he will undo all the good work thats been done.but surely he has to adress the kickouts now. Borderroyal (Meath) - Posts: 496 - 28/01/2020 22:52:56 2263362 Link 0 |
By the sounds of it in the 3rd quarter we had plenty of possession but weren't making any inroads in to their packed defense. Was any thought given to using the mark as a way of unpicking the Tyrone defenses? LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 464 - 29/01/2020 00:03:09 2263381 Link 0 |
Maybe ur supercoach from Dublin might look at the kickouts which are clearly a coaching problem and not necessarily a goalkeeper issue. Shocking from management to blame his long list of goalkeepers rather than put a plan in place to help them. Be better doing some work on a kickout plan rather than running around cones doing silly drills. ryan (Donegal) - Posts: 747 - 29/01/2020 00:05:30 2263383 Link 3 |
Goalkeeper, free taker and then injuries they are our 3 problems (last two are linked). People laying into the team need to realise the team just isn't the same as last year at the minute. From last year we are missing our goalkeeper, both corner backs, our centre back, one of our midfielders, our wing forward and our full forward. That is 7 starters from last year in Colgan, Gallagher, Lavin, Harnan, S McEntee, Campion/Ethan, Newman. Also we are missing the two replacements for Newman in Walsh and Lenihan. Sure we have the Wallaces, Jones (part time for now) and B Conlon back. But you can't afford to be missing 10 players. Especially where 7 would start and 3 would be certs to come on. People being really harsh need to remember this and remember that we should get them back for championship

He's not from Dublin but from Louth!

No doubt the kick outs are a problem but the real problem is in midfield. If our opposition know we are weak in fielding in this area (which we are) it limits the options for the keeper. Division 1 teams know this and will push up to make life difficult for any keeper to take the shorter kick out. No matter who you have in goals this will be an issue for this current Meath team against the better teams. Poormouth (Meath) - Posts: 204 - 29/01/2020 11:37:25 2263450 Link 2 |
He was saying we were running out of steam in last 10 of games last year needed a bigger panel.goin to omagh lads with the team that was out there was goin to end in loss.the personnel we had on field wiuld b suited for another less agressive teamif that makes sense.without being harsh on individual's.we needed more robust type player for tyrone.have we got that in this panel i dont know.but the yoith thats coming thru will get us improving just goin to take time.but we need a manager to have faith in his players not hang them out to dry. I actually cannot believe the overreaction to Yorke, from both fans and the management team. Seriously, how bad were his kick outs? Did they just not reach his man? Were any of them successful? Was he suspect in any other areas other than kickouts? Any keeper in the world can have an off day on kick outs, never mind just one half! (and on your competitive debut!). meathgaa91 (Meath) - Posts: 48 - 29/01/2020 13:02:34 2263479 Link 2 |
Never mind trying to convince Burlingham….There is a goalkeeper in the County who can catch high balls, save, pass, probably has the best kickout and has played Intercounty for years….Why would we not try to convince him instead? Age is not a barrier! GenderNeutral (Meath) - Posts: 115 - 29/01/2020 13:19:30 2263493 Link 0 |
His kick outs were very poor one was kicked to someone inside the D , which is not allowed and many more were scuffed to Opponents . I feel sorry for him as not many of our team were running free to look for the ball . It is very hard to pick out a man when no movement as they are all marked up. I actually thought they would sub him at half time so probably the right call but do feel for Yorke.
