I know its only gone December and it's a bit silly playing these games now but what happened? Antrim seemed to to have quite a strong team out for this sort of competition. How did the new lads perform on the day? Anybody know who was called in to the country squad this year? rightsaidfred (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 02/12/2019 10:08:42 2252617 Link 0 |
totally experimental team and just gets some guys experience at this level. Antrim just look like they are a few weeks ahead in their planning for next year.

I won't get worked up about losing a Kehoe Cup game in the depths of winter, but it's pretty lazy commentary to just say "they'd a strong team out and we didn't". A lot of debutants but 6 or 7 of that Meath team played the Christy Ring final (and the likes of Toher and O'Hanrahan would have been playing if possible). I wouldn't be overly familiar with the Antrim team but from looking at reports there's only 5 names on their team that started their last championship game in June. Just because Neil McManus played doesn't make it a strong Antrim team. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 02/12/2019 12:38:16 2252661 Link 18 |
A good run out. Jack Walsh did well. Antrim had a strong side out so nothing to worry about. Jackpot (Meath) - Posts: 199 - 02/12/2019 14:10:39 2252697 Link 0 |
Great to hear that some of the new lads are getting their chance. J Walsh is a great hurler if he can get his head right. Hopefully the lads can get back on the horse the next day out. rightsaidfred (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 03/12/2019 15:13:19 2252948 Link 0 |
Just seen the team for the Wicklow team today. Hardly fair on the four lads starting who were playing with their clubs yesterday in the under 21 final? Good mix of players out too. Weir seems to have brought loads of lads in. rightsaidfred (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 15/12/2019 14:13:17 2254968 Link 0 |
Looks like we're through to a semi final vs. Offaly anyway, since our score difference of -19 is better than Wicklow's at -26 CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 15/12/2019 18:30:35 2255015 Link 17 |
Anybody know yesterday's team. Taking a hammering from a county playing a level below us is not good. Have all the main county players committed for this year. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 418 - 05/01/2020 08:40:51 2257445 Link 0 |
Panel is a little weaker than last years , a few from starting 15 can not commit this year and were some of our better players. hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 425 - 05/01/2020 11:55:21 2257473 Link 0 |
Panel weaker is an understatement, I know he's giving everyone a chance but there is lads in there that don't stand out for clubs! Meathgaalad (Meath) - Posts: 171 - 05/01/2020 15:59:00 2257534 Link 0 |

Thanks for that. Looking at that team its still fairly experimental as is the whole listed squad as a whole. still the vast majority of the kiltale contingent to come back into it or just werent in the matchday squad. In regards to the managment i know they are new but the team has been fairly solid over the past few years. I know they are new and need to put their mark on it buy scouring the county for new talent but realistically the team picks itself and i would have liked them to have culled the not required by now and have given offaly a good rattle with a more experienced team as this year could be a disaster if they are not at their very best every week. I see some players playing from the intermediate championship in the county which is all well and good. But I still believe and been saying it for years that you cannot beat a hardened experienced senior hurler who has been playing against a higher standard within the county. Obviously Seany Geraghty and O Donnacha are exceptions but apart from that, I think Nick should be looking more at senior hurlers in the county. Its the experimental time of the year, but the league will be a real indicator as to the strength of this panel. Meathman678 (Meath) - Posts: 63 - 06/01/2020 15:08:56 2257768 Link 0 |
There were some positives to be taken from the game, the conceding of three goals in rapid succession was a bit of an aberration which was always something that was going to be difficult to recover from on the day but the lads fought well to recover and although they didn't overturn the goal deficit we actually matched them in the number of points we scored which is a good thing. Although we were well beaten we played quite well overall and to score 3-18 against a team like Offaly is actually quite good and a score that would win many a game. Not good signs for this year with lads missing training to go on holidays, stags and concerts just weeks before the first round of the league. meathareclass (Meath) - Posts: 15 - 09/01/2020 13:01:06 2258394 Link 0 |
Who are these lads? It is January in fairness

Great comment with zero facts given.

One of the players was on a ferry to see Christy Moore so I'm told, along with others who are on small holidays making numbers depleted at trainings

To get relegated from the league is nearly impossible , or would want to be huge drop. hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 425 - 09/01/2020 17:24:24 2258476 Link 0 |
