Isn't this basically a warm up tournament, so it is the place to try lads out, there would be a big squad involved so no sense in sticking to same team for these type of matches

Yeah it's a prep tournament. So good idea to see what lads can do.

Good observation. Do you have a kick out strategy?

Not sure why my query regarding how the under 20's got on merited a thumbs down from someone but I am sure that it takes all types on these fora.

I was at the game on Saturday. Finished 0-14 0-10 in our favour. To be honest, no one player stood out but the whole lot of them had to grind out the win. Condtions were awful particularly in the first half. We played into the wind in the first half but still went in ahead at half time. Started off well but lost our way for a spell when Liam Byrne went off injured. This allowed Laois back into it. In the second half we regained control and saw the game out quite comfortably. I dont have exact scorers to hand but Luke Mitchell definitely kicked 6 or 7 points, mostly frees. Scores were not easy to come by so his accuracy was key. Some others who did well were Cathal Hickey, Sean Ryan and Jack Flynn when he moved out to midfield in the second half. He has a bit of size and threw himself around a bit, which was needed. Laois had around 10 players starting from last years Leinster U20 final, and our lads were without those involved with the seniors. A win v Kildare on Saturday will qualify them for the final against Cork.

Just one type. But he has been outed. Just ignore him and his 7 other accounts. Total tool.

the score at half time was MH 1:7 Mon , with the 1 score from meath coming from our wing back, our Forwards were shocking couldn't win or retain the ball and then would work back to help, second half was much better, finished a Draw ABD09 (Meath) - Posts: 68 - 06/02/2020 14:39:40 2265688 Link 1 |

That looks like a decent team - Still a few more to be considered - especially those involved in the Senior set up - Jordan Morris, Daithi McGowan, Jack O'Connor - (I'd say Walsh will be kept with the Seniors and I think I remember reading that Matt Costello can't play which is a pity). I saw Conall Courtney (Kells) play in the trials and he did well at wing half back - but so too did Stephen Breen from Colmcilles. Great to see Liam Byrne playing he had a lot of injuries last year and was injured in the trial game I saw. ASaminthehand (Meath) - Posts: 422 - 07/02/2020 10:32:48 2265895 Link 1 |
Apparently lads who played senior can now play 20's. That means Jack O'Connor, Shane Walsh and Matthew Costello can play. If this is the case and they are allowed play then it would be a serious disappointment to not win a Leinster title LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 10/02/2020 22:34:15 2266930 Link 7 |
Will be awkward for Shane Walsh to play for the u20's when the senior team and u20s are playing on the same weekend.

For sure. Not a problem this week. To be honest I think he should play the under 20's but just my opinion

For this week anyway because there is no senior game Matthew Costello, Shane Walsh and Matthew Costello are able to play and from what I am hearing all 3 will play. If I was to take a guess at the team I'd say LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 11/02/2020 09:33:43 2266983 Link 8 |
Your not too far away from the team there, swap Michael Gavin and Sean Ryan perhaps Michael Murphy in for Conal Courtney. There's still a question mark over Shane Walsh but you are right about Costello and O'Connor being available. IMO they should leave Lynch in the corner, play Costello on the wing and Walsh at 11.
