Come on now, this is a bit of a rubbish statement! There is no way we can assume that there is not a chance of losing this one. The most recent meeting Kildare beat us easily and they also got promoted. Allied to that their underage in recent years has been much better than ours. For me it is about this year and any talk of what Kildare have won or not won in the past is irrelevant. I am hoping for a win but fully respect Kildare and would not be assuming a victory in any way. In fact i have been thinking of putting a few bob on a draw. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 13/06/2017 17:00:59 1999207 Link 3 |
It be nice from you're end of things Ollie to have the longford game done and dusted and then enjoy Meath v Kildare ..Louth aren't a bad team Ollie ...i still think there a improving team and very capable of making the last 12 and who knows !

Lookrar you living in the past.... what have previous meetings got to do with it.... Kildare will be be too strong too fast ... your defence won't deal with kildares attacking threat

Will Kildare want to win this? In their Halcyon days, the much celebrated team lead by 'Geezer', they were the self titled kings of the qualifiers(also known as flat track bullies). Maybe they'll want to see if this golden generation can reach such heights again. Bearing in mind there's a Leinster final spot with Dublin at stake which they'd no doubt want to forfeit in any case. dunboynelad (Meath) - Posts: 227 - 13/06/2017 19:16:01 1999276 Link 0 |

I have cash on the draw. I also took Meath at 80/1 to go all the way this year.

I used to have a fairly good level of respect for kildare. they were just a team that never really bothered me, fans seemed decent. in saying that am only 27 so probably haven't seen half the stuff some on here has seen! But ill never forget our collapse against Westmeath a few years back, walking out of Croke park, sick to my stumark and groups upon groups of Kildare folk jeering at us after what had happened. I just walked on thinking, you guys are heading in there about to play a serious Dublin team that really dosent suit your style of play and undoubtedly get your asses handed to yous... if I were yous id keep my mouth shut! And the Dubs duly obliged in hammering them! now I don't mind a bit of banter but my god there's some sad folk on this. while you have every reason to be confident some of you should really quiet down a wee bit, you may be wiping a lot of egg off your faces! I think many of us have been lucky enough to have lived through the glory years when Meath were always capable of the impossible. Every year we go back to the championship and go again...no matter how bad the previous year And every year we believe that just maybe--this might be the year when we turn a corner. If it's not this year then when? If Kildare beat us--fair juice--maximum respect...happy to take the slagging so long as every meath player leaves nothing behind on the pitch. Can't ask for much more than that bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1807 - 13/06/2017 22:17:43 1999347 Link 2 |
I'd prefer to see Meath folk have a quiet confidence and not be talking as if we will win for sure. Over confidence is not a good thing and in the past when Meath supporters were over confident (it appeared to get into the players heads too), we witnessed some very poor performances. Granted they were after memorable wins and we all got ahead of ourselves (remember Cork in 2007 after the Tyrone victory, or Galway in 2001 after the huge victory over Kerry). Kildare gave us a bad beating in an AIQF after winning the 2010 Leinster Final. Different times, teams and circumstances I know. Overconfidence is not good at any time, and given the most recent meeting of the two teams (and even allowing for the fact Meath have improved considerable since then), I would see this game as 60:40 in Kildare's favour. The Meath forward line are going to find it much tougher to get scores vs. Kildare than they did vs. Louth. But I hope whatever they do score is more than they concede (collectively). Lets keep our heads down somewhat and let the players do the talking on the pitch. GlasagusOr (Meath) - Posts: 1348 - 13/06/2017 23:45:58 1999371 Link 1 |
That would be fairly standard for Kildare fans alright. I remember Wexford gave us a hiding in mid 00s in CP and Kildare were on after against Offaly. Same sort of behavior from them walking up Jones celebrating like they won an AI. Mattie Forde was the most poplular man in Kildare that day while not a peep from any Offaly fans. Huge gulf in class from the two sets of supporters. They weren't exactly gracious in victory on the Hill in '10 with them standing above the exits shouting all sorts of things at Meath fans. Won't necessary count for much on Saturday but last 2 Championship meetings against Kildare Meath have won relatively easily, 6 point win in 2012 and 5 point win in 2014.

Strong chance of first bet coming in, not so sure about second, but at those odds worth a punt

Yeah...that's my thinking. 80/1 was too tempting. I'd put us at maybe 25/1 or 33's

Good weather lined up for weekend. Will suit Meath. Tullamore will be a cauldron! bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1807 - 14/06/2017 12:24:45 1999538 Link 1 |
Honestly I think we will win this one. I think over all we are at the same level we maybe just ahead of Kildare even though they got promoted. We where not far off getting promoted ourselves. We got of to bad start and where always up against it. On the other hand where unlucky that only Galway needed a win on the last day and not Kildare otherwise we could well be promoted too. (But that was our only fault). Fitness and effort wise the last day against Louth I taught we where not lacking. I think we got a better game against Louth than Kildare did against Loais. That was always going to a tricky game for us with Louth still in the game after 50 mins. We showed plenty of hearth after a number of hammer blows in that game. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1265 - 14/06/2017 12:25:57 1999539 Link 0 |
For Louth to reach the last 12 they will have to do something that they never did before and win three matches in the qualifiers in the same season. They best they have done is two and they have only done this three times in 2001, 2005 and 2007. Their record in the qualifiers is poor. They have only won two matches since 2007, against Antrim in 2013 and Leitrim in 2015.

Totally agree, I cannot see Kildare winning this one, I think we are the more complete team, with the better manager. That been said we cannot be complacent, we have paid for that attitude before. However I think Andy will make sure we are fully focused. Kildare are not a bad team and will probably be a harder task than Louth. Which will set us up nicely for a tougher challenge in final. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 14/06/2017 14:13:57 1999591 Link 1 |
bobkarglees, I agree if some Kildare supporters think that they will be in for a shock. However I think that the majority of Kildare supporters are well aware that the League encounter will count for nothing come Saturday night. Meath were very close to being promoted along with Kildare, having finished very strongly in Division 2. Allied to an impressive scoring rate against Louth I feel that it's going to be a very close tussle. Echo's of 20 years ago maybe? Wouldn't at all surprise me if this game is a draw. Looking forward nervously to Saturday night. Hopefully whoever wins will give the Dubs (more than likely) a right rattle. The Leinster Championship obviously, and the All-Ireland Championship is all the better with a competing Kildare and Meath. lilywhite1 (Kildare) - Posts: 3004 - 14/06/2017 14:35:59 1999602 Link 1 |
Indeed you are correct, great to have you back lillywhite. A replay could be on the cards.
