St. Ultans 1-20 Bective 0-9
A strong St. Ultans side claimed the Meath Football League Division 8 title with this comprehensive win over a depleted Bective at Simonstown.
The winners made a great start and were 0-6 to 0-0 in front at the end of the first quarter. Full forward Adam Rogers got the scoreboard working with a brace. The impressive Tommy Buchanan followed with another two points. Rogers added his third and half forward Tom Brennan completed that unanswered scoring spree. Bective hit back with points from Craig Roche and Scott O’Sullivan. By the 25th minute the winners regained control with a two pointer from Buchanan and a Brennan goal. St. Ultans went to the half time huddle 1-11 to 0-7 in front.
Ultan's dominated the second half. Rogers kicked five points before the 40th minute while Brennan, Darragh Reilly and Barry Brady also got on the score sheet.
In what was an otherwise very sporting encounter the game ended on a sour note when referee John O’Brien was forced to issue two red cards after an altercation in the St. Ultans square.
After the game Ray Finnegan presented the cup to Darren Mallon.
