Div 1 HL final: Kiltale reclaim O'Growney Cup

July 06, 2026

Kiltale's Craig Gilsenan with Conor McNally Kildalkey during the Meath Division 1 HL final at Trim.

Kiltale 2-17 Kildalkey 1-17

Kiltale were crowned Meath Division 1 Hurling League champions with this three point win over Kildalkey in blustery conditions on a perfect sod at Loman’s Park Trim. The winners lost last year’s final to the same opposition and defeated Trim in the 2024 decider.

This game never really reached the heights that these two sides always produced but they meet again in under two weeks time in the opening round of the senior hurling championship at the same venue. Expect a much lively affair on July 17th.

Kildalkey, playing with the wind led 1-10 to 0-12 at the break. Kiltale dominated the opening quarter and were 0-7 to 0-3 up thanks to five points from Jack Regan and one each from Ross Ryan and Craig Gilsenan. Full forward Brian O’Halloran brought the 2025 winners back into the game with a fine goal. Paddy Conneely added five points before the break the as the Village took a narrow lead to the dressing rooms.

By the end of the third quarter Kildalkey held a 1-14 to 0-15 lead before the game swung Kiltale’s way. Regan fired home their first goal, Fearghal McCabe pointed, before Ryan was on hand to finish a McCabe centre to the net and give his team a five point lead. Luke Rickard, and Nickey Potterton (2) made it a two point game. James Kelly pointed to leave a goal in it and after some serious defending in injury time John Donoghue’s men were crowned champions.

After the game John Brennan presented the O’Growney Cup to Iarla Hughes. The Kiltale captain also led his side to victory in the 2024 final.
