HS Meath Awards: Junior Club Footballer of the Year

December 19, 2025

Clann na nGael claimed the Peter McDermott Cup

Clann na nGael’s stay in the junior ranks was short-lived as they bounced back to the intermediate grade at the third time of asking.

In doing so they buried the ghosts of the 2023 final loss to Kilbride as they outmanoeuvred St Vincent’s on county final day.

For the Athboy/An Gaeltacht combination Eoin Griffin was outstanding in goals, with Cormac Smith, Eoin Kelleher and Ben Corkery also excelling during their campaign.

St Vincent’s Michael McIvor stole all the headlines with his 3-6 in the semi-final win over Ballinlough, while Conor O’Brien, Mark Crawley and Gary Tuite were also super for the beaten finalists.

Tadgh Martyn drove Slane on in each game while Daire Shine and Darren O’Higgins caused havoc in every defence that Ballinlough faced. Adam Kelly again stood out for Dunderry as they made a quarter-final.

Our Junior Club Footballer of the Year is Cormac Smith of Clann na nGael. In his first year of adult football, he wore no. 6 but popped up everywhere for the junior champions. His ability to drive forward, find space and break the line was crucial to his team’s success.
