Last years beaten finalists An Tuascairt made a winning start to their Regional Football Championship with this narrow victory over Ardbraccan at Dunganny.
Playing with the wind An Tuascairt led at the break 1-9 to 0-2. Rian Stafford gave them a perfect start with a two pointer. Rian McConnell and Ben Blakemore added points before McConnell got on the end of a high ball into the Ardbraccan square and finish to the net. Aodhan Mallon and Adam kelly Kept Ardbraccan in the game with fine points before McConnell's goal. The team in Black and White added five points from Niall Farrell, Killian Smyth, Stafford, McConnell and Darragh Kelly to open up a nine point gap at the break.
Hugh Staunton got Ardbraccan up and running in the early stages of the second half but they fell further behind to another McConnell point and a Conor Owens goal. From there till the end Ardbraccan dominated. Adam Kelly reduced the margin with a goal from the penalty spot. Kelly (3) and Ruairi Buchanan added points before William Treacy got in for a well taken goal and the lead was down to 4. Kelly added a two pointer to leave it a one score game but time ran out for for them and An Tuascairt picked up the two points on offer.
