Dunderry's Evan Nolan

Dunderry 4-14 Clann na nGael 1-11

Dunderry found themselves in a relegation do or die with their near neighbours during storm Amy on Friday night in Dunganny.

Evan Nolan converted a free to open the scoring before the Athboy/ Rathcairn men answered with a free and a point from play.  Nolan tied the score at two a piece with another free. Liam Coogan intercepted the next play , drove up the field and passed to Adam Kelly who had the ball instantly in Nolans hand- Nolans feet never moved from  25yds out and he drove an unstoppable missile into the roof of the net. Good job the net was there otherwise the sliothar would have ended up on the airstrip. CnG respond with a free. Adam Kelly pointed next after an unselfish ball outwards from Barron. Another free was the only thing the opposition could muster up.

Dunderry however were flying and when Willie Treacy made up ground before off loading to Rian Fay, to Duffy , to Barron and the perfect pass to Nolan to burry  his second into the net. Gary Coles men get their second point from play to stay in touch. Mark Leavy slotted one over next after his neighbour Rian Fay kept the great team work going. Leavy was taken down on the next attack and Nolan put six between the sides. That was reduced to three when a green flag was raised for the town side.

Nolan and Barron answered that goal with one of their own after the latter ran the pitch and Nolan was on a hatrick as the soccer fellas say. Barron won the resulting puck out and this time converted superbly himself.  Donagh Ó Laoire stormed out of defence, gave a great ball to Rian Fay who found Nolan all alone with only the keeper to beat. He couldn't get his usual strike away and it came off the cross bar and over.  3-7 to 1-5 at the interval.

Calmness was the order of the day and Leavys men were sent back to battle unchanged after half time.

Ó Laoire to Barron to Nolan who drove at Eoin Griffin. A great save from the Rathcairn man but Nolan struck over the resulting sixty five. Another free for the black and whites had ten between the sides. Two frees for the Clans men to get the interest levels up. Jamie Duffy was making strides up the left when he was put to ground- free for Nolan. An over carrying infringement resulted in Nolan pointing from yet another placed ball. Lambay and Iskeroon combined next when Níall Ó Laoire and Cathal Barron got the sliothar to Evan who took his fourth goal at ease. Game over at this stage.

When Rian Fay pointed over the shoulder there was fourteen between the teams. As the Dunderry bench was being emptied the Gaels hit three from play. Fagos last puck out of the year was yet again perfect landing in Rian Fays hand who duly doubled his tally.  The last score of the game went to none other than Evan Nolan from 70 yds after Cian Coogan was fouled.

Dunderry: Jack Fagan, Darragh Fay, Rónán Brady, Podge Stephens, Donagh Ó Laoire, Liam Coogan, Níall Ó Laoire, Willie Treacy, Jamie Duffy, Rian Fay 0-2, Adam Kelly 0-1, Mark Leavy 0-1, Conor Leavy, Evan Nolan 4-9 (7f & 1x65), Cathal Barron 0-1

A great team performance showing that these lads wanted to and deserve to stay up.

Timber Leavy, his selection outfit of Nolan, Fin, Socks and coach Heavy were unfortunate to find themselves in this situation and are surley  pleased to remain in the senior ranks next year with this very young team.

Maybe it was Mary O'Briens bread that got them over the line- Thanks Mary.
