The Intermediate football championship was one of the best in years.
The shrewd observers were tipping O’Mahony’s, Duleek Bellewstown, Oldcastle and Moynalvey for outright honours but it turned out to be an unbelievable year for Meath Hill. Shane
McCoy’s men set out their stall early in the season when beating Oldcastle in the Corn na Bonnie final after extra time. A big win over Kilbride in the quarter final and a tough battle with Ballivor in the semi final set up a final day meeting with O’Mahonys. Extra time was needed and three points from Shane McCabe was enough for Meath Hill to claim the Mattie McDonnell Cup in front of their large following for the very first time.
