HL Div 1: Kildalkey leave Kiltale with the points

Sunny Kiltale was the venue for this round 6 Div1 HL game between great.

Rivals Kiltale and Kildalkey on Sunday morning and it was Kildalkey who came away with the points after a 1-18 to 1-11 win.

Both sides were short their county players who will be involved in next week’s Christy Ring final but had good replacements who all done themselves no harm in trying to be on their respective teams for the championship.

Conditions couldn’t have been better as the sun shone down and Kiltale had their pitch in great condition as both teams went at it from the get go.

Kildalkey made a great start to the game as Mark Healy got on the end of a cross from the corner to bat the ball to the net after great work from Paddy Coneely and Maurice Keogh.

Brian Coneely got the next point after having a near miss minutes earlier Maurice Keogh who was causing problems with 2 and Paddy Coneely left it 1-4 to 0-4 

as exchanges were close  but the lively  Niall McNally and Brian Coneely hit 2 more important scores and Mark Healy and Paddy Coneely hit the last 2 points of the half as the halftime score read Kildalkey 1-8 Kiltale 0-7 .

Kiltale had their best patch in the third quarter as the pushed hard against a resilient Kildalkey defence they did get a goal and a couple of points but Kevin Mckeon kelvin Lynch Brian and Paddy Coneely all responded for Kildalkey and with the backs eventually weathering the storm they found their way again and finished with a flourish as Niall McNally Paddy Coneely (with 1 from play and a long range free) Mark Healy and Gary Kelly closed the scoring to finish 1-18 to 1-11 winners to claim another 2 points and with one round to go are almost guaranteed a place in the League final

This was a good team performance and every player and subs had good spells of dominance during the game but a pleasing aspect is finishing strong In games so fitness is good also another good spread of scorers again hitting 1-17 from play.
