Tony Kelly’s superb goal in injury-time saw Clare claiming a 3-18 to 1-22 win over Dublin in the sides’ Allianz Hurling League Division 1B first round clash at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg.
Brian Lohan’s side had led by 2-8 to 0-11 at half-time thanks to Peter Duggan’s goal, but their Leinster counterparts would hit back with one of their own via Brian Hayes six minutes into the resumption in Ennis.
Hayes moved Dublin in front and, while Clare got level through Mark Rodgers, they’d concede a penalty midway through the second-half which saw ‘keeper Eibhear Quilligan pulling off heroics to tip Hayes’s effort over the bar.
The next three points went the way of the capital men, with Hayes, Dara Purcell and Conor Donoghue all sending over, and the Banner men would have to dig deep to get it level again with Rodgers to the fore for them.
Kelly’s goal would deliver the hammer blow for Clare in the first minute of injury-time, with a Donal Burke free late on leaving Dublin two short in the end.

In Division 2, Laois produced a ruthless display by handing a 6-23 to 0-12 defeat to Mayo in Castlebar, where James Keyes (3), Cillian Dunne (2) and Ryan Mullaney fired in the goals for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Donegal moved to the top of the Division 3 table on score difference by dealing Tyrone a 3-23 to 1-18 defeat in Omagh, where a dozen points from Gerard Gilmore and goals by Richie Ryan, Ronan McDermott and John Kealy helped to get the job done for the Tir Chonaill men.
The clash of Roscommon and Wicklow in the Allianz Hurling League’s third tier would be much closer, with goals from Liam Og Coyle and Adam Donnelly in the closing 10 minutes at Dr Hyde Park edging the Rossies to a 2-15 to 1-16 victory.
