Barry Moran and Neil Lydon have stepped down as joint-managers of Mayo football giants Castlebar Mitchels.

The duo were three years at the helm, during which Mitchels won two Leagues, but failed to add to the town club's 31st SFC titles, despite reaching the knockout stages each year.

Several other Mayo senior club managers have bowed out in recent weeks, including Martin Connolly (Westport), John Reilly (Kilmeena), Tómas Morley (Ballaghaderreen), Tom Mulderrig (Ballintubber), Martin Maloney (Garrymore), and Peter Mulry and Michael Gaynard (Belmullet). 

"After three years managing our club senior team, our managers, Barry Moran and Neil Lydon, have made the decision to step aside as joint managers," Mitchels posted on social media.

"All in Castlebar Mitchels would like to express our sincere gratitude to both Barry and Neil. Over the past three years they have been committed to developing the squad, challenge at the highest level of the senior championship and won 2 league titles in their tenure.

"The club is incredibly proud to have our former club players step up to the management role and we wish them all the best in the future."
