Former Dundalk FC chairman Des Denning's upbringing was very much in Cavan GAA. Des, of Castle Road, Dundalk, who died suddenly on September 1st, 2014, aged 61, was born at home in Billis, Virginia in 1952 and his father Michael missed the birth as the Breffni County played Meath in the All-Ireland final on the same day. From the very day of his birth, Des would be deeply involved in sport all his life. His love of gaelic football began at St Patrick's College and the youngest of the Denning family also togged out for his local Virginia team, Ramor United, at intermediate and senior levels, winning county medals. After being educated in Dublin, Des took up a post as area representative in Dundalk for New Ireland Insurance and his first manager there was well-known Louth GAA figure Nicky Marry.
