From Green Road, Dromiskin, John Duffy passed away on October 5th, 2016, in his 87th year. He lived in the village all his life. John was an exceptional footballer and played well into his 40s. He won a JFC with Dromiskin Unknowns in 1955. He also played for a number of other teams from the Dromiskin side of the parish, including Round Towers and Emeralds. In 1964, John togged out for the St Josephs team that brought together the Unknowns and Darver Volunteers. After hanging up his boots, he helped the Joes out with maintenance work around Cluskey Park, including the vital role of cutting the grass. As he made his final journey to Dromiskin Cemetery, players and officials from St Josephs GFC provided a Guard of Honour.
