History was made recently when Caoimhe Halligan became the first woman to officiate at a Mayo men’s senior football league final.
The 24-year-old personal trainer from Charlestown was the lineswoman at the Division 2 league decider between Davitts and Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin, which was refereed by John Finn. It came just a few months after Caoimhe first ran the line at a league clash between Ardnaree and Cill Chomáin Gaels.
The Mayo senior, intermediate and junior football championships get underway this weekend with Knockmore opening their Moclair Cup defence against Aghamore on Sunday.
