Creggan lodge appeal over Lámh Dhearg's 'extra man'

Another ‘extra man’ controversy is brewing after Creggan lodged an appeal against the result of their Antrim SFC quarter-final loss to Lámh Dhearg last Sunday.

In shades of last year’s All-Ireland Club SFC final between Kilmacud Crokes and Glen, Kickhams have claimed that Lámh Dhearg had 16 players on the pitch during their 0-13 to 0-15 extra-time defeat. Their appeal centres on Lámh Dhearg’s Terry McCrudden briefly remaining on the field after Mark Lowe was brought on to replace him in the 38th minute.

While neither player was involved in the play during this time, the fact that Lámh Dhearg had an extra player on the pitch leaves the result in doubt.

If Creggan’s objection is upheld, the game is likely to be replayed given the precedent from last year’s All-Ireland final where the CCCC ordered a replay, only for Glen to withdraw their appeal after Kilmacud Crokes made it clear that they wouldn’t replay the fixture.
