Decision delayed on next year's fixtures schedule

A decision on what the GAA 2021 season will look like fixtures-wise has been delayed by the GAA’s Management Committee.
It was widely expected that a meeting of the Management Committee over the weekend would give the green light to inter-county games being run off in the first half of the new year with club action taking centre stage after that.
But the Association’s top brass decided that further consideration would be given to that proposal in light of the ever-changing Covid-19 climate.
RTE.ie is reporting that the expectation that games will still have to be played behind closed doors heavily influenced the decision given the costs attached to fielding inter-county teams.
There is an argument for club games to go first, followed by inter-county, given the possibility of a Covid-19 vaccine coming on stream.
The Management Committee agreed that it would meet again in mid-December to make a final call on the GAA calendar for 2021 and that would also allow them to factor in any up-to-date recommendations from NPHET.
