Shane Walsh was named to start for Kilkerrin-Clonberne in their Galway IFC opening round victory over Headford at Tuam Stadium last night but did not feature.
The Galway star has applied for a transfer to Leinster SFC champions Kilmacud Crokes as he is currently studying in Dublin, with the draining commute back and forth to his home club for training and matches being a key factor in his decision.
The Kilkerrin-Clonberne line-up featured Walsh at no. 14, however, it's believed the match programme which included team and substitute lists for all clubs in the competition was printed before the 29-year-old made his transfer request.
A late goal from substitute Willie Murphy proved crucial as Kilkerrin-Clonberne got their championship campaign off to a winning start (2-8 to 1-10), despite Walsh's absence.
