Damien Mulligan has stepped down as Belmullet manager, just nine days after leading the peninsula club to their first Mayo SFC final in 40 years.

Inspired by county star Ryan O'Donoghue, Belmullet beat Lee Keegan's Westport in the semi-final before coming up short against back-to-back champions Knockmore in last Sunday week's county decider.

Mulligan guided Belmullet to IFC success in the first of his four years in charge and has since established them as a formidable senior outfit.
