Replying To Ollie2:  "Not before time. It's another form of bullying. Anyway Admin can you tell me which poster got the most red thumbs? My money is on my good friend from across the Boyne Royaldunne."
Bullying? Seriously? I thought it was just a way for people to express whether they liked or disliked a post.

Spare A Thought For Departed GAA Fanatics. - 7 Like(s)
Here it is May 5th and I just found out that a great school friend of mine (R.I.P. John Lane) passed away back in Late January. I lost track of him for 25 years and reconnected on Facebook Messenger. We went back and forth for a couple of years about old school friends that died and Galway Hurling. The guy ate and slept Galway Hurling. It didn't matter whether it was Seniors or local U-14s it was the same passion from him. I messaged him 2 days ago asking why he hadn't posted lately. Last December I went to Galway Regional Hospital to visit another friend who since passed away too (R.I.P.) and I didn't realize that John Lane was in the hospital too or I could have nipped in and seen him. I guess he died a month later. If there's a next life and there's Hurling there he will be heavily involved. R.I.P.

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 5 Like(s)

Replying To PoolSturgeon:  "A reasonable post. What concerns me is that due to the proliferation of disinformation on the Internet, whole groups of people (I'd say the majority of the population) are willing to believe anything that fits in with their own prejudices and biases. Never has it been more easy to systematically manipulate news and play on people's fears. The algorithms and silo thinking can take people down into very deep rabbit holes. Just look at the situation in the US where the Qanon conspiracy theory moved into the mainstream and is firmly believed by a worryingly high percentage of people, probably running into several millions. A senator was elected to Congress on the back of it and it contributed very much to the mindset of those who stormed the Capitol. Sadly in the dystopian direction we are going at the moment, getting to the truth of issues is becoming more and more elusive for us all. Our only protection is to maintain a healthy scepticism in the absence of clear and uncontrovertible evidence underpinning the theory/hypothesis and even then it is worth remembering at the back of one's mind that even evidence can be concocted!"
Fully agree with most of your post but I'd include blm, antifa, MeToo, etc. I've pretty much given up on any "news" media as they're all useless and owned. It's a lot of the reason I miss hurling and football so much as there's such little else of substance on. At least when a good match is on I tend to forget all the dumb nonsense out there. Bring on the matches please. (Safely of course).

Galway V Cork Minor Hurling Final - 4 Like(s)
Congratulations Galway Minors. Great win over a very good Kilkenny team. Cork up next in the Final. Nothing easy there. For what it's worth this Cork team hammered Galway in a challenge match a short time ago. Galway going for a 5th All Ireland in a row.

Galway Hurling thread - 4 Like(s)

Replying To baire:  "Unfortunately there are still too many naysayers in the county and unsurprisingly surface when we lose. The 1980 AI winning team who made the breakthrough by winning the 1975 league final had to endure a huge amount of negativity down through the years, being told they'd never win an AI, weren't good enough, were cursed etc. Clare had to endure the same negativity from their own supporters. I recently heard one of those Galway players saying that after losing the 1979 final against KK that Pat Henderson came to him after the game and gave him great encouragement, saying to keep going, that they had the hurlers and would soon win an All Ireland. Fair play to Henderson, a true sportsman and fair play to John Connolly and the other courageous hurlers who kept it going through those barren years."
Them Hurlers sowed the seeds for a lot of Galways successes in all levels to this day. That Castlegar team of that era deserves special mention too.

No Palestinian Flags - 4 Like(s)
I don't care what flags people bring just like I don't care what they wear either. I'm not into banning stuff unless it's an obvious danger to others such as explosives or whatever. Common sense should prevail.

Replying To johnocarroll17:  "I think Henry is overrated as a manager and could be found out this year ....."
Overrated by WHO? He's just starting out. Just got to Galway. Nobody (including Henry I'd say) even knows what the Galway team will look like. When St Thomas's are finished in the Club Championship then he will have a few more pieces to work with but even then there's no telling who makes the team and who doesn't.

Inter County Player Failed Drugs Test - 4 Like(s)

Replying To Cockney_Cat:  "No. For professionals sport is their means of making a living; many choose to take performance enhancing drugs to make money. This is what Larry Olubamiwo, a former heavyweight boxer who was banned for four years in 2012 after using drugs, had to say last week: "As a society we use drugs to enhance ourselves. We wake up and drink a cup of coffee that has caffeine in it. That's a drug. People drink alcohol to numb pain or relax. That's a drug. Nicotine is a drug. What is the difference between someone using these drugs and an athlete using other drugs to improve themselves? Many athletes dope to make money for themselves and their family. My first goal as a boxer was always to make a living.""
That boxer must be joking. There's a big difference between someone drinking a cup of coffee (Legal Product) and some boxer cheating. Big difference and it shouldn't have to be explained.

I doubt it. The Irish are not on the Protected Species List. The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Supermac's Call For Investigation Into Galway GAA Sponsorship Spending - 3 Like(s)
It's going to be a big mess. Sigh. If they refuse to show the books then Supermacs could pull sponsorship and if they DO show the books and they're all screwed up then you could see lawsuits or at least a lot of ugliness. It's probably bad for Galway GAA no matter what. I hope I'm wrong.

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 3 Like(s)

Replying To PoolSturgeon:  "I think Micheal Martin committed to it going ahead some weeks ago and that's the main reason it is going ahead. Perhaps if he had known a week ago the result of the RTE poll published today showing 67% against it going ahead, he would probably be of the same view as Varadkar. Unfortunately the celebrations after county finals around the country did lead to spread of the virus and has led to negative perceptions among the public as reflected in that opinion poll. On an optimistic note though I think celebrations of provincial/ all Ireland success can be and will be much tighter controlled than they were at club level. They will need to be because the whole country is watching and if they dont occur within the guidelines there will be very serious reputational damage done to the GAA. I understand the concern about amateur players going back into their communities but I think it is a lesser risk or concern than post match celebrations."
Good post though I'm always skeptical about POLLS and how they are conducted. Side question: what is the death rate (percent) of the Virus in Ireland? And total deaths? Thanks.

The GAA And "Northern Ireland" - 3 Like(s)
Every inch of ground on Earth was either fought for or roughly taken off of someone at one time or another down through history. North America and South America were taken from indigenous peoples that also stole from each other and practiced cruel savage acts to each other. Whether factual of me or not I think of Ireland as one solid country. Of course any of you could prove me wrong with an up to date map or textbook but I don't care. Also Derry City is Derry City not L****nderry. Galway Abu.

I hope England wins. Partially because it'll be a first time for them, partially because I like some of the Liverpool players on the team, and partially because I don't mix politics and sports despite the handle I use. Am I disgusted by the English Governments atrocities of the past? Of course I am. Just like I'm disgusted with current governments such as Chinas or whatever but the current players or fans in the crowd have nothing to do with that so yes I'll be hoping for an England victory.
