Limerick's concession of so many frees was one of the main talking points from their drawn Allianz League encounter with Tipperary at the LIT Gaelic Grounds yesterday evening.

The reigning All-Ireland and league champions had to dig deep into their reserves of energy to earn an opening round point against a Tipp side, inspired by the sound free-taking of Jason Forde, who finished with 0-14 - 0-11 from placed balls.

Their overtly physical approach has been key to their success, but speaking on RTÉ The Saturday Game Live, Clare's two-time All-Ireland winning captain Anthony Daly speculated about referees 'clamping down' on Limerick's tackling.

"I’d be very disappointed, to be honest with you, if referees have been told, by the association, to clamp down on Limerick," Daly said.

When it was put to him that the 'clamping down' was on what constitutes a foul, Daly continued: "I’d expect that to be highlighted then, what’s a foul, what’s not a foul.

"I thought Tipp were sharper in their thinking. They were getting their quicker, and that led to a few extra frees. I didn’t notice it being that lopsided, but if you count them up, I suppose it is."
