Carlow are Joe McDonagh Cup final after coming out on top in a cracking final against Offaly at Croke Park this evening.

It finished 2-29 to 1-31 at headquarters, where extra time was needed to separate the sides after Eoghan Cahill nailed a score in the fourth of injury-time to force the added periods for the Faithful County.

Charlie Mitchell’s goal in the opening minute had given Offaly the dream start to this decider, but the Barrowsiders were unfazed by it and would be in front by the 21st minute.

Tom Mullally’s men would hit the jackpot seven minutes when Paddy Boland fired to the Offaly net and another goal from the penalty spot via talisman Marty Kavanagh would send them towards a 2-9 to 1-7 half-time lead.

The Faithful men kept in the fight throughout the entire second-half and Cahill’s late point sent the game to extra time, with the scoreboard reading 1-25 to 2-22 at full-time, and, after more points back and forth, it was this cracking point from Chris Nolan (see it below) that ultimately secured the title for Carlow.
