Three teams have been eliminated from the Conor McGurk Cup (Ulster hurling pre-season competition) after a coin toss was used to determine the winners of their postponed ties.

With the freezing weather wreaking havoc with the schedule and no room on the calendar for refixtures, Tuesday night’s Monaghan v Louth and Tyrone v Fermanagh Round 1 fixtures were cancelled, as was last night’s quarter-final between Ulster University and Antrim. Derry’s quarter-final clash with Queen’s University Belfast did go ahead, however, last night and resulted in a facile win for the Oak Leafers.

As a result of the coin tosses, Louth advance to play Down in Darver and Tyrone progress to meet Donegal in Convoy. These quarter-finals are scheduled for this evening. Ulster University will host the winners of the Tyrone v Donegal game in the semi-final on Saturday afternoon.

The same method was used to decide who progressed in games that were impacted by the weather in Leinster’s O’Byrne and Walsh Cups last weekend.
