Conor Whelan is an incredible player. his second goal was genuinely as good as you would see. The skill, leadership, strength, confidence and finishing ability was top notch. he's some player

Kildare seriously need to grow up here and turn up at croke park to take their beating. The key point of this is that Kildare's home venue is a dump. They need to sort that out first themselves before they start threatening to give walkovers when the advantage is taken from them. This is entirely kildare's own fault and the GAA are 100% correct. Kildare gaa should be embarrassed with their home ground and their tough guy actions...

Never Let Us Down - 2 Like(s)
Hi all, the phrase "never let us down" is used widely in a sporting context. It's something that i must say annoys me. Its almost a throw away comment thats put out there for decent/ average players more often than not. But can someone tell me, what does "he never let us down" actually mean. Like does having a bad game or being at fault for a winning score mean a player has let us down? Is it meant purely as an onfield thing or does is it take in a players off field life as well?

I think Limerick are so strong right now that a rest of Ireland team would struggle against them. Ive picked a best of the rest team that would take them on, i would love to know others take on this. 1 Murphy 2 Barrett 3 D.Burke 4 E.O'Donnell 5 R. I think one of the main priorities going forward is to find a central defensive spine. David mcinerney is a fantastic hurler, one of our top 5 player - but i dont think he has the natural instincts of a full back. Imagine if he was playing wing back or midfield, he'd be one of the best hurlers in the country! Similarly with cleary, i think he is good enough to be on the team, but i dont think he is a dominant enough hurler to be playing center back. Its a real pity actually that things didnt quite work out previously when they were swapped around for a league campaign because i thought that was the answer to our problems.

Replying To clooney:  "All good points there Spirit & Fight are absolutely essential and we have heard Brian Cody refer to it many times about his team, of course you need a lot more than these qualities but these two are crucial. Shane O Donnell got an awful dogging as well as TK on Saturday but got on with it as you have to I spose young Ryan at some time in 2nd half flaked and gave away a free when we had a near certain point that was badly needed at time. Discipline is also crucial all the free takers now are nearly 9/10 Read this morning also that John Conlon is back training too early for him to feature again but great news. Just on the players that we are missing some of course cant be helped but why is Jamie Shanahan not involved he is not injured as far as I can tell ?. I have great time for Podge { really nice lad away from hurling too } but why would he drop himself in our greatest need Ian Galvin also is a beautiful hurler but he is oftener off than on with one thing or another I woulden't be rushing to have him back on panel. Waterford gave great account of themselves but don't appear to have huge scoring threat either hope they done send Gleeson back to 5 next day which is probably his best spot as with both himself & De Burca in half backline the would be v hard to break down"
From our point of view I would probably prefer to see gleeson playing wing back rather than centre forward. The further he is from our goal the better! Plus if he was wing back, Malone would be ideal to keep him quiet. Id expect malone to keep the shackles on calum lyons anyway as he seems as real class hurler. I think podge left the panel because he knew he was well down the pecking order and had a much better chance of getting a game with the footballers. He had a great impact against tipp 2 years ago but other than that he doesn't seem to be the player he once was. Id happily have ian galvin back next year if he's ready to commit. If we can get everyone fit and available next year then we really could challenge next year. Anyway we'll focus on saturday to start with!

I really feel for all the supporters, particularly from Mayo who won't get to see their team play now. Also we can only pray that none of the few supporters who do get to go will get seriously injured in that terrible venue. This is an accident waiting to happen and responsibility will lie soley with kildare!!

Offaly v Waterford - 1 Like(s)
Offaly are terrible. I am in favour of the new proposals for the hurling championship but my one cornern about it is that there are 9 counties who can be competitive. 5 in munster and 4 in leinster. Limerick and dublin seem a little bit off the pace at the moment but they are 2 young teams and in another year or 2 will be in the mix with the other top 7 teams. But my concern is that in the leinster side of the proposal each will have an easy win against offaly which unbalances it. Outside of the top 9 no other team looks like they are even building to get to a competitve level with those 9. Richie hogan had an interesting view on it where there would be an open draw to decide the 2 groups with the top munster team in each group contesting the munster final and the top leinster team in each contesting the leinster final. Its an interesting idea which might work a little better than seeing offaly or whichever other team gets promoted in their place getting hammered in every game in leinster and allow them to get hammered by a munster teams instead every now and again!!

im a little unsure about cleary myself, but he definitely deserves a chance. on pat o connor- ideally i would have him at wing back but i think our midfield needs a defensive type player there with galvin. and im not sure there is many other options! corner back is a tricky one but i think browne has everything required to be a top class corner back. people say he is slow but he most certainly is not, he has loads of hurling and hes aggressive. he has tended to foul a bit much but i think he will develop and mature into player we know he can be as long as he improves his tackling! one thing i am sure about is that david mcinerney should be center back - he is ideal for the position. bobby duggan is a class hurler, one of only a few players in the county that can score from all angles from either side. hes such a natural striker of the ball. i think we have to let him prove himself now and he will be a star..

personally i dont think browne is good enough in the air to be a wing back. we need someone to play corner back and i think most of us agree o'donovan is not up to it and personally i think we need david mac center back. so that leaves us with browne or flanagan and i would think browne just edges that.

Replying To jimbodub:  "Kildare CB will be extra vigilant and hopefully there will be additional stewards and officials available on the day Apparently the Gardai and H&S authorities only signed off on the game being played there if strict guidelines are adhered to. Let's hope all that is in place and that all supporters do their part."
I really hope on saturday that mayo dish out the hammering that kildare truly deserve for their appalling behaviour. Kildare have put their own small mindedness ahead of public safety and well being - a disgrace. Plus there are 1000s of proper gaelic football supporters who will not now be able to watch their team because of this nonsense. The GAA are there to do what is best for everyone which was the intention. Kildare should be ashamed.

Replying To Waltermitty2:  "What would wexford apologise for?"
Well similar to yourself, having clearly made an incorrect comment, been called out for it and just ignored that. The wexford chairman said wexford had no part in the hse nominating contacts. The wexford players gave the 2 clare players as people they were in close contact with, identifying one by the colour of his helmet. And the wexford players appear not to have told the hse that any of their own teammates were in close contact to them - prior to the third player being a confirmed case on saturday. If you cannot understand how this is all very unusual and reflects poorly on wexford, then i advise you to focus on your school work and stop pestering adults.

Replying To preddan:  "all im saying is these two boys are long enough in the job now and won nothing.....Clare had possibly the best panel of players in ireland for a few years but with retiremants and loss of form 2013 is a distant memory again....was there not one past well known player called for a review commitee when davy fitzgerald was in charge and no one is calling for anything with the present management now...."
Seen as you're from Kildare we'll let you off with it, but there was a review called for by a former player when davy was manager ie Brian Lohan. There was no need for such a review to be called for last year when we narrowly lost out in an all ireland semi. After one bad loss in this years championship, obviously questions are being asked. But we're hardly going to have a full mid season review as you - especially seen as if results go our way this weekend we could go through with a game to spare. Stick to your kildare football, good lad
