The work done to date has been outstanding and hopefully the months ahead will bring further joy to all supporters. It appears that there is good forward talent on display.

I think it really shows how managers are overrated. The under 17 s were absolutely annihilated in the final - does that make John Brady a bad manager ? The minors had two great wins so far in Uster - does that make him a good manager ? We like to build up managers as if they really had much control of whats happening on the pitch when the reality is they have very little. The real managers are on the field leading by example and encouraging and getting the best out of their team mates. Cavan seniors unfortunately don't have leaders on the field so it matters very little who is on the side line. Managers facilitate training and organise teams but I m afraid that's the limit of their effectiveness. Eugene McGee won Leinster and All-Ireland championships with a brilliant Offaly team , was then in charge of Cavan for four years and won absolutely nothing or never looked like winning anything. tenyearplan (Cavan) - Posts: 147 - 27/06/2017 19:48:16 2006479 Link 1 |

Won an U21 title with an amalgamation a few years ago as well With Lavey and KIlinkere I think it was so has won something. If you go back to looking for a new manager for the senior posts names that were bantered won nothing most of them. John Young thats with him knows how to win also.

I wish them well with their team in Ulster and the all Ireland series. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 28/06/2017 09:40:35 2006671 Link 0 |

Are there a lot of quality Under 16's this year? Any names stand out? It is very surprising that the Under 16 management have chosen not to defend the Gerry Reilly cup this year in light of the fact that next year is the first year that Minor reverts to Under 17 I would have thought that this would give 3 or 4 great competitive matches to this group of players. A baffling decision. Breffnisbest (Cavan) - Posts: 473 - 28/06/2017 11:32:07 2006740 Link 1 |
There were other managers involved there.

Can anybody tell me how many players have played Full Back and Centre Half back during the Ulster Minor League and Championship? Breffnisbest (Cavan) - Posts: 473 - 29/06/2017 16:03:45 2007537 Link 0 |
Refreshing to see a Cavan team without a blanket defensive mindset, playing to their strengths attacking with speed and accuracy. Not so refreshing to see the usual management bashing in this county even when the team is an Ulster final playing flowing football. Good luck to Team and Management in Ulster Final hope they bring it home and these talented footballers are nurtured to enhance the senior team in the coming years. Well said, best of luck in Ulster and all Ireland series to a talented team.

Paddy Meade played full back in all league and c'ship games. With regard to no 6 centre half back the following players played this position in league and c'ship - Philip Rogers; Kevin Hendrick; Danny Cusack; Oisin Kiernan; Cormac Timoney and Evaan Fortune.

These good minor teams are most of the 3 in a row Gerry Reilly cup winning teams which leads me to the question as to why we have no U16 team in this years competition.... Does anyone know why we are not takeing part as it has served us well in recent years....? Sean.66 (Cavan) - Posts: 293 - 29/06/2017 22:17:12 2007727 Link 0 |
