I understand from todays papers that we are now down 4-5 players for 2017 - Keating, Fergal Flanagan, Mackey & Givney. I also heard that there were others who are undecided. If we are to compete in division 1 then do we have enough without the above players? Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 22/11/2016 12:01:34 1935940 Link 0 |
It was going to be tight as it was. Givney offered a good goal threat for Cavan in 2016, something Cavan lack in the forwards. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 22/11/2016 12:54:34 1935960 Link 0 |
Givney a huge loss, does anyone know if there is anyone new on panel?

Yup, looks more like trials than a finalised panel.

Very disappointing to hear of the non-commitments. They've given great service to Cavan football over the last few years and wish them the very best of luck for next year whatever they're doing. It's a big hole in the panel for what will be a very difficult league campaign but hopefully some new faces will step up and fill the void. Seen the fixtures today. Why are we playing Monaghan in castleblaney? It's a glorified club ground at best BIBS (Cavan) - Posts: 4 - 23/11/2016 13:05:48 1936224 Link 0 |
I think if he can hold the nucleus of the panel together then we can remain competitive. We need to identify some new players to compliment what we have and Matty will be doing this over the coming weeks. I was looking at the fixtures and although we have more away games than home, I would think that we can get 6 points and that should be enough to keep us up. If we can get some new lads blooded while doing so then all the better. Looking forward to it but seems like a long way away after a long year. Where no do you reckon we might get the 6 points? I'd be very interested if you could point them out.. I've gone over the fixtures time and time again and 2-4 max is all I can come up with and that's hoping that these teams are not at full strength. If you think we age going to go to Monaghan and get a win we'll your badly mistaken. Anyway enlighten me! Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 23/11/2016 16:21:26 1936284 Link 0 |
Good man awwnow, starting with the negativity already, I think Matty should go? Let's get on his back they are useless?

Only joking awwnow, but in all fairness we should have beat Monaghan last 2 championship games and beat them last time we met in league, new manager? Just maybe? Why not? They have lost players too.

Just hope we can pick up enough to stay up.For us to progress long term we need to stay in div 1. That would be a really good achievement . The confidence got from staying up would greatly help come championship time Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 23/11/2016 21:48:35 1936326 Link 0 |
Awwwwnow. Did you ever consider going down the route of motivational speaking? I really think you could be something special .

Alright here is my predictions and I would appreciate yours also (which i will keep in a safe place)! Balls out! 5th Feb Cavan V Dublin - Dublin win 0 points 12th Feb Monaghan v Cavan - Cavan win 2 points 25th Feb Tyrone v Cavan - Tyrone win we stay on 2 points 4th March Cavan v Donegal - Cavan win 4 points 19th March Mayo v Cavan - Have a sneeky feeling for a draw but ill go with Mayo - still on 4 points 26th March Cavan v Kerry - Kerry win - still on 4 points 2nd April Roscommon v Cavan - relegation playoff really and Cavan to repeat similar performance to last time and win. So there is where i can see Cavan getting 6 points. I am sure that you will come and critisise it but this is my opinion. Now over to you!
