Delighted with this decision! Truthfully worried over rumour's of Banty, who I think would have been a step back for Cavan. Mattie has great experience from his time playing for Tyrone, where he scored a goal against Cavan in 95. He was a strong, tough n accurate finisher, scoring a super goal for Tyrone V Derry in 97. He coached as a PE teacher in St. Pats Armagh, n brought them to there first MacRory Cup in nearly 50 years. Has been very successful with Scotstown, winning 3/4 Championships. Wonder what his management team will be? Wishing him the best of Luck! soraghallaigh (Cavan) - Posts: 15 - 10/10/2016 22:45:59 1924719 Link 0 |
Well done to the selection committee for making the right choice as manager... Scotstown will be losing a good manager but he has done wonders for them and I'm sure they will wish him well... Mattie has a tough 1st season ahead of him so patience will need to be shown for a while as he beds in... best of luck to him and again ...well done the County Board... Best of luck to Mattie. At least all Matties teams play attacking football so that will be a welcome change to what were were subject to this past 4 years. Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 11/10/2016 09:20:42 1924764 Link 0 |
Delighted with the appointment. Like many more, I was worried with the talk of Banty. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 11/10/2016 10:27:18 1924790 Link 0 |

Priorities for the new management team: MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 493 - 11/10/2016 11:03:08 1924814 Link 0 |
This looks like a good appointment and now we can look forward to the National League campaign. I, for one, was critical of how long it took but I am glad that they did the due dilligence and got their man. I must admit, I don't know much about the man apart from what I read here and in reports about his success with club football. But I hope that the players will buy into him as much as the supporters seem to be doing. We are at a cross roads and we need to keep moving forward. 6) Turn Killian Clarke into a midfielder MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts:153 - 11/10/2016 11:03:08 1924814 This man is a wing half and thats where he should stay Delighted with the new manager I only hope it's not sowered by a bad backroom team. Fingers crossed he gets this right if yes we will do fine. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 11/10/2016 11:55:45 1924839 Link 2 |
We could have saved the hassle of interviewing and appointed you as manager ! i'd be in favour of letting Mattie do the job !! Best of luck to him. Hopefully he has a good backroom team !! FrDougalMaguire (Cavan) - Posts: 152 - 11/10/2016 12:42:35 1924865 Link 0 |
Your right Sean, Killian is a defender and a top class one too and that's where he should be left, lots of good player's to join existing panel, barky , cullivan, hessein, Bradley Barry Reilly to name a few , and a good panel all ready there I think Joe Dillon is on existing panel

If you saw club championship you wouldn't have seen Cillian play as a back.

Well I am available for a selector role (!) It's only a bit of craic, and there will be great speculation on potential changes. But like the 1st 100 days of any new regime, you would like to see some of the big issues tackled head on. McGleenan needs to make it his team from the start, and be given the space to let his changes work. By the way, the range and quality of players available to the new man is Terry Hs legacy, and he deserves proper recognition for that. I know he doesn't play there for his club , but Cavan need the like of him that can tackle and disposese now more than ever in div one , he,s a player would mark anyone, remember him in 2013, remember him marking Paul mannion, last year when Cavan going well in the league he was in defence.

I agree, we should give Terry credit for the talent on the panel. I'm sure there are more to be unearthed going forward. Hopefully he takes control and gives leadership. I can't imagine him being a shrinking violet !! We need to give him time to get to know the players and identify their strengths and weaknesses. Madge if you're available pop into Breffni Park and put your name into the hat for a selector before Tom Smith does. If he tells Mattie he discovered David Givney he'll be an automatic choice for selector !! Move now and the more I think of it..... move fast !!!!! Would echo that last sentence. If we enjoy any success in the next year or two, Terry is the first man we should be looking to heap praise on. He has brought Cavan football to it's highest level in half a generation. Not sure what his availability is like but don't be surprised to see clubs falling over themselves to snap him up for 2017 cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 11/10/2016 14:22:30 1924930 Link 0 |
Needs must at club level. Raymond Galligan played full forward for Lacken. Jason McLaughlin hasn't played corner back for Shannon Gaels for years. I don't think I've ever seen Rory Dunne play full back for Redhills. Happens in most counties. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 11/10/2016 14:26:44 1924934 Link 1 |

My understanding is that Fergal Flanagan and Cian Mackey wont be committing for 2017 BootIt (Cavan) - Posts:107 - 11/10/2016 14:46:00 1924941 I would say Mackey will give it another year. Fergal is starting a family and may well not want to give up quality family time. I think the new man will make several changes after the McKenna cup he will have a fair idea what he has on his team. It would be nice to see a few that were dropped or left over the last 4 years to let the new man if they are available to play.
