If two teams level on points is it head to head to place them or score difference. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 15/08/2016 17:53:17 1901418 Link 0 |
I think the point being made was that you don't need to add the word "score" as there has never been a scoreless draw in GAA. so just say "Draw" and that will suffice ... You are welcome !"]Never been a score draw, but at some stage in the future, there will be....at a recent Division 1 Championship match in Donegal...Glenswilly 3 pts Naomh Ádhamhnáin/St Eunan's pts. Grand total of 5 pts scored in 60 minutes. The black death has left Cavan and found a home in Donegal. deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 16/08/2016 09:21:17 1901599 Link 0 |
County Board have really gone and outdone themselves again giving out details for senior quarter finals before the last round is complete. Teams will now have an idea of who they may or may not play before their games so we could see some cases of teams purposely not wanting to win so they can get an easier qf draw. Over 30 wides kicked so lots of chances just woeful shooting. It happens. A team kicked 1 1 in a meath championship game a few weeks ago and 4 16 a week later. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 16/08/2016 11:44:12 1901690 Link 0 |
Highly irregular, but from my dealing with the county board over the years, nothing would surprise me. So anyway, if this draw is correct, then we can surely see two quarter final line ups are more or less completed already. Ramor vs Kingscourt Lavey vs Mullahoran We can say this as Lavey beat Kingscourt in the group, so even if they lose their last game, and Kingscourt win, they finish top due to head to head. If Ramor beat Ballinagh (which we would expect in their current form) then they finish top and Mullahoran second, no matter what their result against Denn, as Mullahoran beat Ballinagh so they go through on head to head. I suppose we can say, for these quarter finals at least, that there really can't be much fudging there. It's more complicated in groups 1 and 3. 1 is so tight, the two winners of the games there next weekend will go through, while in 3 it's winner goes top from Gowna Castlerahan who are both through anyway. However it shouldn't be much of an issue as they play first on Friday night, so they'll not be playing to win or lose depending on who their next opponent is, as they just don't know who out of the 4 from group 1 it will be. It's all highly irregular, but there shouldn't be an issue this weekend. Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2450 - 16/08/2016 11:50:22 1901697 Link 0 |
Mullahorn have to win and hope Ramor beat ballinagh. Cause if all end up on same points mullahorns score difference won't be good enough unless they beat denn by 20 points. tom84 (Cavan) - Posts: 334 - 16/08/2016 12:20:35 1901717 Link 0 |
By my reckoning the quarter final draw will be as follows; theDagger1986 (Cavan) - Posts: 181 - 16/08/2016 13:06:45 1901762 Link 0 |
It is only head to head when determining 1st and second. If 2 or more teams finish on equal points in 2nd, 3rd or 4th, there will be a playoff

So if ballinagh beat ramor and mullahorn beat denn the three teams will have to play again!! tom84 (Cavan) - Posts: 334 - 16/08/2016 22:27:08 1902061 Link 1 |
Thats my understanding of the competition rules. Same scenario if Denn and Ramor win, Denn/Ballinagh & Mullahoran playoff

The above ruling applies to the Cavan County Championship for the most part, bar the following: (c) As provided for in this Competition Regulation, when teams finish with equal points for Qualification for the Concluding Stages, or for Promotion or Relegation, the tie shall be decided by the following means and in the order specified: (i) Play-Off Score difference does not come into it. It only goes on head to head to decided who finishes top if the top 2 teams are on equal points. I'm taking the above from the competition rules emailed out to all clubs prior to the championship starting. ballygowanwater (Cavan) - Posts: 207 - 17/08/2016 16:55:32 1902372 Link 0 |
I think ballinagh will beat ramor. If that happens provided mulahorn beat denn the championship will delayed two weeks. That's madness. Why did they bring in this rule. tom84 (Cavan) - Posts: 334 - 17/08/2016 23:02:00 1902533 Link 0 |
The quarter final draw should not be made before the group stages finish. Top 4 in the 4 groups open draw against the 2nd 4. Only exception is teams that met before couldn't meet. The farce that's now means you have teams ducking and diving looking for the easiest draw. Example will Castlerahan/ Gowna want to meet the Gaels at the quarter final stage. I'm not saying the Gaels are world beaters but they are always a threat at this stage of the competition. Castlerahan and Ramor have impressed . Kingscourt finding their feet too. Wouldn't be surprised if cuculains beat lacken. My only problem is both group games should be played at the same time at different venues just to make it look legit. It was a bit odd having the draw before the first round completed. Surely it could have been done this weekend. marita (None) - Posts: 468 - 18/08/2016 13:34:09 1902754 Link 0 |
I am still waiting to be impressed by the SF Championship this year. Its all just shadow boxing ahead of the Quarter finals anyway when the SFC begins in earnest . Any team with an eye on the Oliver Plunkett cup will not be worried about who they are playing at any stage. rahanman (Cavan) - Posts: 127 - 18/08/2016 18:50:28 1902953 Link 0 |

Can't see how Ballinagh can qualify especially if mullahoran beat Denn which they probably will
