I would have expected more posts than this but it kinda tells you how anxious we are about playing Armagh. desagov (Cavan) - Posts: 209 - 19/05/2016 13:17:57 1856362 Link 0 |
surely it's not Seanie !! There's usually a mention of him being injured before a game StirringIt (Cavan) - Posts: 374 - 19/05/2016 13:26:04 1856370 Link 0 |
Celt says, Niall McDermot unlikely to play and McVeety recovering from a dead leg. desagov (Cavan) - Posts: 209 - 20/05/2016 09:27:56 1856583 Link 0 |
Looks like just McDermott and McVitty - hopefully they're both fit and available, even if not selected they'd make an impact coming off the bench. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5195 - 20/05/2016 13:42:45 1856712 Link 2 |

Having watched Tyrone demolish Derry yesterday, I think we know that we have a tough game awaiting us IF we manage to get past Armagh. I read nothing into what happened in the league and we know that they finished strong in their campaign. I expect that this will be a closer game but our home form has been good of late, or at least since the Derry game, and I think that we can progress. Looking forward to it and hope this awful weather will clear up and that we have a good crowd in Breffni on Sunday. Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 23/05/2016 08:33:15 1857567 Link 1 |
going on recent form we should win this. although as has been said Armagh have improved a lot since we played them. Don't forget that they drw with Tyrone in the league and finished off their campaign in much better form than they started it. So that 17 point winning margin is in no way reflective of the difference in quality between the two sides. However having said that Cavan have shown in recent times (Mckenna cup and league that we have the measure of them. Also We have shown alot of consistency of late (We had to win 5 games in a row (or at least we thought we had to win them) to gain promotion and we did just that. That shows remarkable consistency. If we don't win it will because we have been rattled badly by Armagh's tactics. Mcgeeney could have something up his sleeve and we mustn't lose the heads. Hope it's a dry day (both for me and the players) s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 23/05/2016 09:02:24 1857578 Link 1 |
League and McKenna Cup games now count for nothing. Had those results been reversed I would be expecting a massive response from our players and management. I now fully expect the same from Armagh and it will be 50:50 who wins this. Players should be expecting the kitchen sink coming their way. We will very likely be drawn into a war of attrition and making headway will be slow going. It's important to expect this and for the players not to panic even if we are chasing the scoreboard. If we match them, stick with them and give back as good as we get I believe we have a stronger panel and should shade it over the 70- as long as we expect the unexpected and don't panic! Cavan will have to watch the ambush. The attempt to goad them into a spiteful, free-ridden game with loads of cards and sending offs. Armagh have form for this, they will try their best to disrupt our rhythm and we will have to keep our discipline. Having said all that I feel we have the better team and will win but we will have to be prepared for their dirty tricks. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 23/05/2016 14:53:36 1857770 Link 1 |
The result will be entirely down to Cavan's mentality- its a long time since that was the case going into a first round Ulster match. There is a big gulf in class between the respective panels and we should not be afraid to acknowledge that. Armagh are living on old glories, same goes for their manager. And after yesterday in Derry I honestly don't think they will be 100% motivated to win. They know it would be followed up by a right trimming by Tyrone. Get on top early, stay out of the stupid stuff, maybe bag a goal and it will be comfortable enough. MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 493 - 23/05/2016 16:57:15 1857857 Link 0 |
I would be very cautious, Armagh are very dangerous opposition any day and if they play like Tyrone did we will find it very hard to break them down. desagov (Cavan) - Posts: 209 - 23/05/2016 20:44:59 1857951 Link 0 |
This Sunday we are going to get Beat. There is too much self praise and bluster going on in the county. Armagh are waiting for us in the long grass and they are going in as the underdogs. foxes_denn (Cavan) - Posts: 129 - 24/05/2016 13:52:34 1858127 Link 2 |
very best of luck to Terry and the lads on Sunday - I have no doubt we can do it if we go in with the right attitude ie dont listen to the hype and go in to it as a fifty-fifty game which it is. We were both second division teams this year even if we went our separate ways. tenyearplan (Cavan) - Posts: 147 - 24/05/2016 19:25:09 1858256 Link 1 |
yes it's getting a bit ridiculous now with people saying we can win ulster and people talking about playing Tyrone. armagh will love that. Armagh drew with Tyrone in the league and they improved alot since we hammered them. This is definitely a 50/50 game. Mcgeeney will have seen what we are about and will have tactics inplace to counteract it. We need a flexible approach. Don't get involved in any sledging or argy-bargy. We need to win the game and if that means turning the other cheek then so be it. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 25/05/2016 09:30:25 1858335 Link 0 |
Surely if we're concerned about a Div 1 team's ability to beat a Div 3 team, then we may forget about mentioning Ulster finals/titles. wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1720 - 25/05/2016 10:09:41 1858364 Link 0 |

Influential players do not allow themselves to marked out of the game. That's what makes them influential players! Givney and GMac have work to do in this respect. MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 493 - 25/05/2016 10:34:41 1858379 Link 2 |
Well, It's also up to the management to see what's happening and change thing around. sometimes there's very little the player himself can do. You would hope that the sideline could make a few positional and or tactical switches that would help them to be more influential. Gmac did get a couple of glorious scores but when you consider that Seanie and Givney scored about a third of our scores in the games before that and they only managed 2 points between them in the league final it certainly was the difference between winning and losing the game.
