Cavan v Laois

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Hopefully we get the same result as last year when we outplayed them in Portlaoise. We can win this one once we don't get too far ahead of ourselves. Laois racked up a huge score in their last game against Derry so there's plenty of firepower there. On the other hand there are lots of positives from our league campaign so far, even in the games we lost the boys battled hard to the end which probably tells us more than the winning margin in the last 3 games. Hopefully the day will be dry and a good home support shows up

I think the forecast is for rain but they are known to get it wrong so lets hope it's dry.

Really looking forward to this one- a win here will set us up nicely for the last game. Laois can be dangerous but if our defense are solid then I think we have more than enough to win.
We're building a nice bit of momentum and I notice that there's a bit of (for want of a better word) hype starting to surround the team. Looking at predictions on the main page from other county users we seem to be everyone's favourites for this one which is probably unusual. Bookies also seem to have us odds on. This is good. If we are to progress, then part of getting to the next level is managing expectation. Good teams get noticed but more importantly, live up to the hype. It will be interesting to see how we carry the favourites tag on Sunday especially considering what's at stake. I'm confident. Good luck to all.

Hardtimes, its the new reality for this team. Let seem them perform when they have to play with a level of expectation. Its a new variable in their progression. Let's hope they continue to improve in the weeks and months ahead.

Laois will be dangerous enough. Cavan beat them well last year, but they aren't as bad as that. . The half back line is very good attacking wise with Darren Strong, a bit loose defensively.. 5 goals conceded against Derry.

They have to win for if they loose and Derry win their last two they get promoted so it's a must win match thats provided Galway win their last two games off course. If Galway win and Cavan win winner takes all between them and Cavan. There are several other permutations but this is the one win both they are promoted it's that simple if they loose it's out of their hands I would say for the last match next week.

Laois will be hard to beat. They are getting into their stride and posted a great score two weeks ago against Derry.
Cavan will need a good start and leave nothing to complacency. Chances must be taken. We need to cut down on the wides.
If we have a good attitude and work hard we will win.

Expect a good performance from Laois, I got the feeling last year that they took us slightly for granted and weren't ready for what we brought to Portlaoise that night. I don't think Sunday will be the same. Kingston roasted Rory Dunne last year when Rory was playing his best ever stuff for us, they won't be as blunt up front as Armagh or Meath.

In terms of Terry's tenure as manager the next two games are two of the biggest. If he brings us from the foot of Division 3 to Division 1 well it leaves the future looking bright after he leaves and the only thing better would be to win Ulster.

Let's hope the pitch is dry and fast for Sunday along with a full stand of Breffni supporters. If we can outnumber them in Portlaoise we can do better again in Breffni.

Raining heavily here in Kildare this morning, looks like it will be a weekend for wearing gloves. Best of luck to the boys tomorrow.

Lashing here in fact all morning I am going to struggle to have the pitch lined if this continues.

Better weather expected by lunch time tomorrow.
Might just be an odd shower after that.

Hopefully Sean. I don't want to get another dose, just over one.

I hear James McEnroe is back on the panel. Great if true. Another big strong lad.

well done lads, another win. so with Galway and Fermanagh that means we only need a draw against Glaway. not that we will be playing for a draw mind you. anyway nothing much changes. we were always going to have to get a result v Galway to get promoted. Jack Brady did well, Keating's shooting is a worry. great defence from Killian Clarke in the second half.

Great win lads,

Johnson going off with what looked like a hamstring injury is a worry. Hopefully it's not too serious.

We looked a little edgy at times after he went off. Two great points from Jack Brady. Keatings shooting was a horror. Looked to be trying too hard to create an impression.

Great second half from Killian Clarke. Would like to have seen Rory Dunne getting some more game time but overall It was a good day.

Bring on Galway next Sunday and we need to get everyone out good support out.

Congratulations to the lads on a hard fought win. Great to see so many different players chipping in when the chips are down although at times we made life hard for ourselves. But to be fair it was a horrendous day for football- you wouldn't put a milk bottle out in that weather. Don't want to single anyone out as we are fairly well balanced at the moment but SJ really gives us something different. Hope the leg is not too serious. Great to see Jack chip in as well. Great little footballer but he was a bit lost in the half forward line before. I always saw him as a natural corner forward and hopefully this is where he will grow from now on- great option to have coming on and no reason to say he can't nail down a championship place for himself. Also well done to Ray Galligan today. He probably typified our performance- made plenty of mistakes but when it really mattered he came good. Those saves towards the end were simply fantastic and very very crucial. He's really beginning to look like he belongs in goals.
Squad looks very strong. Would be great to win next week if only for an extra game in Croker against Tyrone before championship. Competition for a starting place is going to be intense to say the least.
Onto next week- hope the weather improves, we have a full squad to pick from, a bumper crowd shows up in Breffni and may the best team win!

I thought it was a game of 2 halves for us but we dug in and got a vital win. I wont lie, I was worried about this one. Seanie was good today and I am very concerned about his injury - if it is indeed the hamstring then 3-4 weeks minimum is likely. We really need him on Sunday. Otherwise we looked good. I saw McEnroe on the back pitch and had heard he is back in even though he is living in London. Hard to know who we would drop to let him in. Outstanding options on the bench. I actually thought our bench strength won it for us in the end. Massive game next weekend against Galway with nothing to fear for these lads, this is why they are playing the game and investing the time. Hoping for a full house next weekend in Breffni!

Any word of Seanie's injury? Hope he's ok for next Sun but it looked like a hamstring.
Who was on the bench today lads? Was Mc Dermott there or is he still injured?

Great result and congrats to all.
