Missed your reply. Anyway he is a Dub. Born and raised there. Plays club football for st brigids. Maybe he has fermanagh relations. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 15/03/2016 12:55:07 1835065 Link 0 |
You probably are right I will not argue with you. No matter he is doing a good job so I really don't care where he is from to be honest once we keep getting the results we are getting at the moment. I suppose in this game you are only as good as your last result before the negatives start coming. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 15/03/2016 13:11:12 1835076 Link 0 |

I stand corrected, but is he not from Fermanagh, and an uncle of the golfing twins from Ballyconnell? deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 15/03/2016 14:00:28 1835105 Link 0 |

Deanmartin, you are way off the mark..terry Hyland has done a great job of managing these young lads. To think that 21 or 22 yr olds will suddenly evolve into snr county footballers is to say the least being very naive. While some lads mature quickly, it takes most a couple of yrs. getting them by that 22-23 yr mark is the challenge. A challenge Terry seems to have coped with, very well. 'Patience' is the word and Terry Hyland seems to have loads of it. Dr.who (Cavan) - Posts: 24 - 15/03/2016 16:21:35 1835173 Link 0 |
It was also down to a change of tactics which was much needed. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 15/03/2016 17:06:04 1835188 Link 0 |

So the change has nothing to do with it? Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 15/03/2016 18:16:59 1835210 Link 0 |
Slasher, can you tell me the difference between the tactics we played last year against for example Laois, Monaghan, Roscommon in the League last year and the tactics that we played against Meath (for the second half when Terry had his apparent "epiphany") Armagh and Fermanagh? Specifics now not just "we're attacking more" Inactive x5 (Cavan) - Posts: 1452 - 15/03/2016 18:21:33 1835213 Link 0 |
Sorry to disagree with you slasher but yeah, if you think somebody suddenly decided to flip a switch and say lets play attacking football. Players management and tactics have evolved together through a lot of hard work and dedication. Dr.who (Cavan) - Posts: 24 - 15/03/2016 19:36:59 1835237 Link 0 |
We have less men behind the ball now and we're breaking faster. Our goalie is a big part of the new plan too. Great kick passes from him and with pinpoint precision. On several occasions last year i saw only one player ahead of the ball. That's not happening now. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 15/03/2016 19:37:12 1835238 Link 0 |
I actually got Deanmartin all wrong. Thought he just had an agenda against manager. My apologies. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 15/03/2016 20:16:40 1835256 Link 0 |
What Terry has done since he took over the U21's is given the Cavan supporter optimism for the future, he has raised expectations, for some the future couldn't come quick enough. Terry had to start from scratch and has built his team up from what he started at U21 level. Yes at times the football was horrific to watch and we got some bad beating on big days but these were mainly all young lads learning their trade as county footballers. These lads started their senior county football careers at a time when Cavan were probably at the lowest they ever were. Don't forget where we came from, surviving from relegation to Div 4 on the last day in both 2011 & 2012. The last time Cavan had won more than 1 league game while competing in the top 2 divisions of the league was in 2003 the following year they were relegated and only appeared once more in Div 2 in 2008. For these last two campaigns in Div 2 we have being/are in a position where promotion to Div 1 was/is achievable going into the last few games. In the Ulster championship the previous 10 years before Terry we played 15 games won 4 drew 1 and lost 10. In Terry's 4 campaigns to date we W 2 L 4, we were beaten by Donegal (eventual Ulster & All Ireland champions), Monaghan x2 (eventual Ulster champions both times ) and Armagh. aceofspades (Cavan) - Posts: 257 - 16/03/2016 12:57:00 1835367 Link 0 |
Aceofspades, lets not cloud our judgement with facts, what have the facts ever done for us ???? Seriously though, I hope we never go down the road of the premiership of calling for the managers head after one poor season ... I believe most genuine Cavan supporters don't subscribe to that. We are making progress and thankfully the manager has been allowed to continue. I agree that a lot of our players have matured, some were thrown in at the deep end but you got to say he showed faith in them and they are paying dividends now, long may it continue. facer4home (Cavan) - Posts: 159 - 16/03/2016 13:46:48 1835387 Link 0 |

It's great that Cavan are at long last playing football in the right way and moving the ball foreword at pace which gives our attacking players more of a chance... What I can't understand is how did Hyland stand on the line for 3/4 years and persist with a style of play that had supporters and players bored to tears... In our first 2 and a half games we were pathetic but something did happen at half time in Navan to change things and long may it continue... Cavan attacked last year under McHale and put up some good scores. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 18/03/2016 17:47:41 1835828 Link 0 |
Plus they're breaking faster and not playing short handpasses sideways across the field. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 18/03/2016 18:56:57 1835833 Link 0 |
