Cavan vs Armagh

Ned if they lose tonight it will be the players themselves not the pitch not the ref not the management. players have the ability now they need to believe in themselves and perform simple as that, they have the strongest panel of out field players in years so no excuses Big Big performance and hold the Tempers all up to the players . I do believe they will win this game

Cavan Slasher

Your correct pitch is the same for both teams, just think our lads have a notion in there heads about the pitch . Its all in the mindset in my opinion

Nobody's saying the pitch isn't the same for both teams but obviously different teams thrive on different types of pitches. If you're big and physical a heavier sod won't be as tough to play on as it would be for a lighter side. It might not go so far as to be a deciding factor in a game but it's a factor nonetheless.

erm...dear god..thats a bit of a scoreline. Don't care that its armagh, bad pitch, early in the year, league or whatever.. thats savage and i think a lot of us have been waiting for that for a while..

In fairness to johnstone it looks like he has the head down and working.. I think we all have pointed to the lack of scoring forwards but we seemed to have turned a little corner in the way we play too. This result has turned my head..

Still the obsession with my posts Fred, goodness me but it's getting unhealthy, would you care to comment on yet another superb win for Cavan tonight? Any views on our excellent forward play? Any thoughts on how well SJ is doing for us? Were you even there?

In your reply, at least try and talk football, make an effort for once.......

That was a superb performance, the team is unrecognizable from the inconsistency we've seen over the last few years, and the driving force behind it is the infusion of the young lads, and the return of SJ who is in excellent form. We seem to have finally cast off the defensive negative philosophy which defined us for the past few years, and the energy and enthusiasm the likes of Faulkner, Moynagh, O'Connor, Argue are bringing is infectious for the older players.

I think the experiment with Givney on the square worked a charm tonight, and with Gearoid and Argue on the 40 the physicality we have up front will be a huge asset. We have developed an excellent running game and scores are easier to come by. Jayo chipped in with 2 points, Faulkner kicked a beauty, the fear factor is gone and lads are encouraged to have a go, and look at the dividends its reaping, two massive scores posted in the last two games.

Great to see Rory Dunne make an appearance, albeit a short one.

I'd still be a little concerned about our slow start in games.

Not to get carried away, Armagh were dreadful, one of the worst visiting teams I've ever seen in Breffni Park. Their heads dropped midway through the first half and beyond that they weren't interested.

Overall with other results taken into consideration we're back in the hunt for second place. Tough game in Brewster coming up, a win should guarantee at least safety.

Great performance from 1 to 15. Goalkeeper great hands and kick out. Two corner backs on score board. Midfield done a lot of the dirty work giving Gearoid a platform to put in a motm performance. Seanie was class but hasn't won me over yet. Givney is getting really match sharp and as good a game as Argue has played for Cavan. Armagh are awful though. Also great to see Rory Dunne back and witb few more players to come back we will have a strong bench too. I'm not in the pro Terry or anti Terry camp just a Cavan supporter who goes to most matches. The crowd sizes are getting bigger. Fermanagh next. Win that and division 1 a strong possibility.

sitting in brefni last night and i taught to myself this is the strongest team since 97.. I remember five or so years ago going to watch Cavan play Cork and they destroyed us in terrible conditions. Cork had these big powerful players that ran through us. We looked like a minor team in Comparison. But now we have Big powerful men up front Argue, McKiernan Givney and Keating to come back too. Then add in Johnstons class too. Its a very exciting time to be a cavan supporter. Credit has to go to Terry and Co on the line. Hes doing a fabulous job for Cavan football. Well done Sir.

Yes the physicality in the forward line is a big help. It took Cavan until round 5 of the league last year to get their first goal, They have 5 scored after 4 rounds. All a big help if it comes down to score difference. Good to have Rory Dunne back, killian Clarke will likely play further out the field or maybe in midfield.

Johnston was impressive again and is justifjng his recall. Armagh were desperate though, hardly be as bad come May.

Great win for Terry and the lads. Always nice to stick it to McGeeney and Armagh.

Definitely not good to get carried away though. We gave Meath and Monaghan a hammering two weeks in a row 3 years back.

The game against Fermanagh is really the tipping point now in our league campaign. Win and we will have promotion prospects. Lose and we will feel an edge of pressure to secure safety. Fermanagh haven't been beaten in Brewster since 2012 I hear?! It will be a tough place to go. Hopefully we can bring a good support down.

Out from Ned I note the lads that were on here slating management after the first couple of losses have nothing to say about such a big win.

Tomsmith here
Great performance by all concerned.Delighted to see Seanie doing his part. the past few years were very troubled for him and particularly his re-location away down to Kildare. Coupled with his brief sojourn at Hurling, this fine footballer will surely contribute immensely to County Cavans fortunes . Just another congratulations to David Givney on a fine a performance . David who I take credit for his discovery has been a powerful performer over the years and I feel that the search for a replacement should commence immediately as he will not be around for ever. That is why in another tread I have proposed Divisional teams to unearth new talent.

Great win for Cavan but why has it taken 3/4 years for Hyland to realise that we have players (forewords) who are good enough if the ball is given in quickly... We have wasted precious time on negative tactics that our players don't enjoy hence so many defections recently... We have very good defenders who can defend in their own right so let them do it... It may seem funny but defenders need just as much space to defend as fore wards need to attack..crowding a back line only leads to lazy defending and no outlet when in possession... Roll on more good days like these

It looks to me like Terry Hyland has learned a few lessons of late. Total blanket doesn't work.
Now we can mix it. Tackle hard in defence and break quickly. Not as m,any hand passes as there were and players are competent enough to give a good quick kick pass. Also we now have a goalkeeper who can catch and kick with accuracy which is important in setting up quick breakaways and attacks. Terry must have been reading the threads on here.

We shouldn't be looking past Fermanaghj.
They gave Laoise a hiding today.
One game at a time and no cockiness.

Congratulations to all again on another 2 points on the board. I think next week will give a good indication of where we're at. Fermanagh are a well organised team, disciplined and have total belief in their manager and give their all for him. They won't lie down. McGrath is a wily old dog and is sure to have something up his sleeve. They will be a tough nut to crack but a win there secures survival and if we get it we can then look forward to the last two games and let the shackles off. I think/hope that there is now too much competition in the panel for any lads to be going into matches complacent. There's a lot of jerseys up for grabs!

congratulations on your all-ireland success, all hail terry hyland? only jokin just havin the craic, all attention to next weekends game with cavan comin to brewater park....

thoughts?

personally i think cavan have the quality to be very close to the top dogs of ulster, their only hindrance has been not freshening things up with new managment, as for fermanagh 12 games unbeating at brewster park, clearly a tuough nut to crack?
