I was panicking at half time , was delighted we played football in the second half . I was particularly impressed wit Faulkner and Mc Vitty ,Seanie showed some of his passed ability which i hope continues ,Corr held his own . I think we need to stay grounded here and not lose the run of ourselves one game at a time . One very good half of a game does not mean we are there yet lets work on this win , improve on our short falls and failings and come out the next day and play in both halves . Congrats to management and team lets keep it going.

They had the ability to do the same to Derry in the last 4 minuets but went for goals. cavan should now have 4 points instead of two. They learnt from that game and it stood to them today and as I stated all ready there is no reason why Cavan cannot win their remaining matches.

Great win today for Terry and the lads. Fantastic second half performance, great spread of scorers. Very impressed with Gearoid and Faulkner, Seanie did well too.

At half time today things looked bleak both in terms of the game and our league prospects as a whole, the response reflects the attitude and desire from both management and the players. If lads on here can slate management for a 1/2 point loss then management deserve credit for an 8 point swing today, you can't have it both ways!

Armagh up next in Breffni. Huge game and given the needle we've seen in previous games it's absolutely vital we retain our discipline. Keeping Campbell quiet would be a good start. All the games left are winnable, take it one at a time and solidify our place in the league.

Great result ,, a game of two halves ,, first half Cavan was at the normal, holding the ball up too long not letting it on fast enough . But the second half they took the shackles off and actually let the ball up the field at speed , probably didn't drop enough high ball into the big men up front but the one's they did scores came off them. The second half of today's game proved a point, that the vast majority of us could see except the line, it proved that the players has the ability to attack fast and letting the ball up front quick isn't such a bad idea.

A great result lads but definitely a game of 2 halves. I agree with Goonie and a few more that our slow build up is holding us back and as someone said once when we took the shackles off we were a different team. I suppose it is only common sense , if you carry the ball slowly up the field all you are doing is letting the opposition get men behind the ball.
I think a lot of the younger lads stood up and were counted in the 2nd half. Mc Veety, Moynagh, Faulkner, Mc Loughlin, O'Connor and C. Brady in parrticular.
But (and I have been critical of the lad before) Seanie Johnston was very good all through. This was the old Seanie , hungry for the ball, probing with great passes, combative and most of all accurate. Well done lad and welcome back. Just a pity we hadent you for the last few years to cajole and help these young lads.
Also the introduction of Niall Murray made a huge difference and he completely sealed up the half back line.
Martin Reilly has been Cavans hardest working player for the last few years but sadly his holding up the play has only hindered us and Mackey to a lesser degree. Carrying the ball constantly into tackles is suicide !!
In the 2nd half we were exceptional and it told a great deal what game plan we used. Move the ball quickly and let Mc Veety , Brady , Mc Kiernan , Moynagh and Clarke tear defences asunder.
I think we are still struggling at midfield to win poscession. It is hard to know what the best combination is but with Rory back full back, Killian Clarkes mobility could be a big asset around the middle. I havent seen Buchanan and young Argue still has to convince me. Mossy will always give you 100%.
Givney improved as the game progressed and could be a full forward.
So all in all 2 points are welcome but we have to build on it and get a win against Armagh. Converting our poscession into scores is the key.

Congrats on the win yesterday, well deserved. Couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo in the 1st half, some awful efforts, defensively a complete mess. Created enough chances in that period to be a lot closer. I'm sure they got a right bollicking at half time. As other teams have found when playing Meath at the moment, if you go direct and hard, it's like the parting of the Red sea.
Reverse in 2nd half, Meath defensively a complete shambles, generally clueless, Cavan much improved, threw off the shackles and went for it.
How good are Cavan? Hard to say, their performances against Tyrone and Derry were promising, you could say now that they've started to deliver. 4 pointer the next day against Armagh. Best of luck for the rest of the season, it'll probably (certainly) be longer than ours!

As one of Seanie's critics, I will certainly give him credit for his second half performance. I thought he made the difference when he came out the field and took on the play-maker role. He also showed composure and leadership, both of which Meath lacked. I won't forgive him for his hurling junket (not that he'll be bothered one way or the other), and one swallow doesn't make a summer, but he was my MOM for sure. Givney definitely prospered more when Seanie started finding him with quick and accurate passes. I think Terry may have stumbled on a possible new ploy to open up defences here, but did he see it?

It was great to see C Brady, K Clarke, G McKiernan and D McVeety taking the fight to Meath with appetite and purpose. One thing that disturbs me is the way Meath ran through the heart of our defence, in particular for the first point and throughout the first half. We have a weakness in recovery in key positions. Once a few of our backs are beaten, they don't have the explosive speed to get back. I hope that this is noted. Yesterday's surface was dry and found out some of our defenders , which will happen throughout the summer if not corrected. We won't always be playing against teams that run out of steam or implode in the second half.

Interesting that Meath had no plan to deal with our blanket. They obviously didn't look at the Tyrone technique, which Derry are now copying.

Lets put it in perspective?

Outcome : a win 2 points
Opposition: Meath will get relegated or close to it. They ve some head scratching to do after that 2nd half.
Tactics: taking off Mackey & M reilly changed the attack ball was kicked in & off the shoulder passes much faster.
Positives: 1.20 don't know when last kicked that. turnovers were brilliant. Midfield finally won.
Negatives: Meath were poor, missed fortys & free kicks by 4 diff players, Moynagh was class going forward but poor positioning when meath ran down the centre

Summary : The shackles for some players mcveety moynagh finally came off. The squad is fit & ready(great subs). The confidence seeps through the team if 1 or 2 is having a bad day it filters. When they were winning turned into world beaters. So leaders have nt fully developed yet. Johnston also no fan, did very well but missed lots & was nt near marked again meath defence are shocking. But M reilly & mackey will be better the next day so overall I see a long summer!

A great show by the lads in the 2nd half when the shackles were taken off... In the opening period Martin Reilly and Mackey slowed the game down too much and over soloed the ball into trouble... I am not convinced about Givney or Michael Argue who seems a bit lost on the edge of the square... I think midfield is the only viable position for him... Faulkner is a class act and Moynagh is as strong as an oxx.. We must have seen the first case of a goalie going up the field and taking frees out of his hand ( 1 good one and the other one should have been left to SJ )..... A great show from Sean Johnstone and like him or not he is our best attacker by a mile and I for one am glad he has returned to the fold... A word of caution though in the lead up to the Armagh game as our results immediately after a good win tend to be poor...especially if we are at home...overall very pleased and just shows how good we can be when we move the ball forward quickly...which I have been calling for a long time...

We beat a poor Meath team, lets not get carried away with quotes such as we're gonna have a long summer, there's a few stiff tests ahead.
We took the shackles off against Meath because they were so poor and they play an open game of football, but it took management an entire half before realising that.
Armagh will be a different team, and I've no doubt we will revert to the blanket again, so will be interesting to see how this fares out.

Dean as Fred says, Meath beat Armagh.. These simple mistakes your making need to stop. If you look at the whingers on the Dublin and Kerry boards they don't make these mistakes. You'll get away with them at this time of the year but if you really want to make an impact come championship you need to tighten up and cut out the errors, when Cavan are beaten in this years Championship you need to be ready. Your effort is consistent but we need more from you.

Oh am I picking on the poor posters. You three have picked on and berated a good honest to god Cavan man like Terry Hyland for years. I'm delighted Cavan won, I'm disappointed when we lose but I'm convinced we are improving. We have no God given right to best anyone, each game is tough. You boys are only happy when we lose.
