amalgamations still wouldn't cavan clubs more competitive in Ulster because you can't use amalgamed clubs in ulster

It appears to me that consideration is only being given regarding potential amalgamations concerning clubs from the same parish. Is this an assumption? Can potential amalgamations be based on them being adjoining clubs (potentially from different parishes)or is it an actual rule that clubs can only amalgamate from within the same parish?

I also wonder if the same or different rules apply if:

1. You are talking about whole clubs amalgamating to form a new single club.
2. You are talking about club teams amalgamating for specific competitions but each club retaining its own status as a club to facilitate its own teams in separate competitions.

It's not the sole function of the club scene to produce Cavan teams to win at inter county level or to produce teams that can win Ulster Club / All Ireland Club Championships. The main focus is to provide opportunities for individuals at all levels to play. I think the county does well in that regard.

in my opinion changing the structure of the lower leagues (eg amalgamating smaller clubs) wont improve the quality or outcomes.
Ask yourself this question. if we took the best twenty players from the top two clubs (in your own opinion not necessairly co finalists)and ignored the age old arguments of almalgamation do you think fell that team would have a better crack at an ulster club championship. i personally dont think so. our senior teams do just not have enough quality and whilst i agree that cavan ethos is generally club first there is no doubt that sucess at county senior level generally filters down to clubs. Look at out neighbours as mentionaed in previos posts.they may not have won all ireland but have consitnatly improved for a few years and now their clubs arestartingto follow suit.

It's Quantity over Quality the games being played. The Breffni League Semi final only played yesterday. It should be over ages ago.

Well the fact that the Breffni semi yesterday and Castlerahan having to play that and an under 21 game less than 24 hours earlier. Also think they are down to play a senior semi and under 21 game next weekend again. 4 games in 8 days.

Eduardo66 - Your facts are wrong about why Drung and Kill did not want to amalgamate. It was not because of ''petty'' things like colour of Jersey. Kill passed the motion. Drung however did not and the motion only got 11 to support it in Drung.
Reasons
1. Pride in the Club.
2 Too many players would not get football and there would be a huge fall off in players.
if the motion was proposed again today and even with smaller numbers, Drung would still reject it.

Cornafean and Drung cannot meet until Kildallon has their appeal heard. Any word?

Very unfair on both cornafean and Drung been forced to play promotion game on Saturday evening in weather conditions with red alert warning. county board showed total disrespect to both clubs and to the division 3 league. Goalposts blown on to field could have caused serious injury. Would game have gone ahead if clubs involved we're playing in higher division?

I'm sure Cornafean will not care one iota that the game went ahead,
It might not be the usual thing, but as a Killeshandra man I am delighted that Cornafean have gained promotion, and I hope they can build on this and I hope to see, within a couple of years, Killeshandra, Arva and Cornafean, all playing in Division 1, and the Senior Championship, even if I do hold the view that there should only be one club in the parish, fielding a strong Senior and Junior team, but I do know this will never happen.

Some things never change do they?

Today was our annual "take a hammering in Ulster day" for our club champions. The depressing state of club football in this county is not going to change until the number of clubs is reduced significantly. We have far too many clubs for such a small county which dilutes the talent available to teams.

But this will not change, the appetite isn't there to make the hard calls.
