Andy McCabe of Crosserlough was and is the toughest man ever to have kicked a ball in the jersey of cavan! ck1 (Cavan) - Posts: 1 - 30/12/2008 15:04:18 171353 Link 0 |
Had the privledge of playing on the great Andy Mc Cabe not to mention his brother P.V.. He was tough and hard. A few others around my era that were tough : Olly Brady, Adge King, Terry Sheridan Mullaghoran and maybe the rest of the team as well, Ballinagh had a few tough merchants like Red Galligan as well as Denn.Their wing forward in that era dident believe in the ball- just a side issue. Lacken also had some massive big men who could look after them selves as did Drumalee. BreffniDub (None) - Posts: 377 - 01/01/2009 14:11:11 171787 Link 0 |

I am just curious about this post regarding "king" Denis O Keeffe Drumalee . It is referring to my deceased dad & I am just curious as to the person who posted this lovely comment . I was only a very young child when my dad played football so only have vivid memories of it but would love this person to enlighten me of dads football skills . Thank u & regards

Having watched Cavan teams for nearly 50 years for me it has to be Andy McCabe, his sideburns alone frightened the life out of any forward who came near him, only remember him playing with Crosserlough.... breffni47 (Cavan) - Posts: 34 - 08/09/2017 10:03:05 2044079 Link 0 |
Love reading threads like these. A great reminder of how the game used to be! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 08/09/2017 10:57:44 2044102 Link 0 |
I was wrong up above - Andy was of course a Crosserlough man. Lived in Kingscourt later but I don't think he played for them. Heard a great story about Andy breaking Enda McGown's leg (accidentally) while playing together for Cavan. Ray Carolan (Mullagh) was another teak-tough player. Jim Reilly was also very strong although remembered more for his football skills - I was told by a player who marked him in County trials it was like hitting a brick wall. Adge King too. Tommy Duff Killinkere was another who hit hard opa01 (Cavan) - Posts: 505 - 08/09/2017 11:12:16 2044109 Link 0 |

All the okeefes were good footballers and tough but fair men. Joey, Dennis , cyrl, pat gave great service to Drumalee. But the best thing about them is they were all gentleman off the pitch too. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 08/09/2017 11:22:26 2044113 Link 0 |
I went to a fight and a gaelic match broke out.... unbelievable start, assaults left, right and centre... great to see footage of Jim Reilly and Joe Dillon, terrific players...

Jim Reilly had everything. One of the best if not the best Cavan footballer I ever saw in a Cavan jersey. Rarely saw him play a bad game. He could play anywhere was so versatile. We could do with a few Jim Reillys nowadays. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 08/09/2017 12:18:52 2044140 Link 0 |
