The game against Monaghan should be of benefits going in against Tyrone. They will have had a 4 week break from the league. Hopefully Jason McLaughlin is back and maybe Clarke. McVeety will be out for a longer period. About time Cavan got one over Tyrone. They looked porous in defence during the league but will likely be more solo in championship. McNamee and Sudden key players for a long time have retired which have weakened them along with a few players opting off the panel FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 10/04/2024 12:25:52 2537102 Link 0 |
Definitely Tyrone can be beat, this is best chance to do a job on them in a few years. We need a 70+ min performance. Match ups need to be right. Gunner on the good Canavan, Brian O Connell or McLoughlin on McCurry, Killian Clarke if he's fit to do a spoiler role in midfield. I have no doubt Ray will have his homework done facer4home (Cavan) - Posts: 159 - 10/04/2024 13:33:58 2537127 Link 0 |
I would have McLoughlin on Canavan and O'Connell on McCurry

Killian Brady would probably pick up Cathal Mcshane if he starts. McShane hampered by injuries for the past few years ,but suppose to be getting back to fitness. He gives them a different dimension alongside 2 smaller forwards in McCurry and Canavan. Mattie Donnelly could play inside either FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 10/04/2024 16:37:18 2537183 Link 0 |
If we could keep McCurry and Canavan quiet it would go a long way to getting a good result…. It won't be an easy task as they are serious operators.. ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3029 - 10/04/2024 18:35:44 2537196 Link 0 |
I'd agree. Gunner hasn't the pace for either of them. He has the physicality for this game so he'll be needed but they're our best 2 man-markers.

It's important that we curb our expectations heading into this match as Tyrone are a massive step up in quality than a terribly disappointing Monaghan team… I hope we play with the same bravery as we did last week and see where that brings us.. In previous meetings with Tyrone we were beaten long before the ball was even thrown in mostly because of the negative mindset imposed on the team by management… I would rather lose the match being brave than go all defensive and negative and end up looking anyway which we seemed to do in recent years… ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3029 - 11/04/2024 10:11:52 2537290 Link 0 |
The Stephen O'Neill factor is very interesting here, will he be able to help them deal with the players mindblock with Tyrone?

It's time to take a big scalp and this game is an opportunity to do that. Nothing to lose. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5194 - 11/04/2024 23:08:11 2537439 Link 0 |
I think there is a top 3 ,and after that it's up in the air. Tyrone won the All Ireland in 21 and were in the final in 18. This isn't a vintage Tyrone team but would be a big win nonetheless. Fergal Logan the joint manager has been off through illness which has probably affected them a bit too. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 12/04/2024 09:11:21 2537455 Link 0 |
Never got to post after last weekend but what a win. Good for the soul and despite all the negative commentary about crowds, I thought there was a championship feel to it with good banter in the stand and of course the sunshine always helps. I thought Smith, Faulkner and Lynch were outstanding. Overall, I didn't think we played at our best which is a positive. Still some poor unforced errors which can be very frustrating. You feel at times lads just need to settle on the ball and keep their full concentration and composure, as alot of the errors are under no pressure. 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 377 - 16/04/2024 15:28:43 2538362 Link 0 |
Team announced. Exact same 15 as 2 weeks ago. Clarke and McLoughlin to the bench Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2450 - 18/04/2024 22:06:22 2538936 Link 0 |
How's everyone feeling for Sunday? I dunno, we always have to be wary of Tyrone and our recent record, but I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. Looking at the teams, we look settled enough, strong options from the bench (although I expect Clarke to start, and possibly McLoughlin too) while they have likes of Harte, Kilpatrick and others missing, and have 7 new starts, 5 of those being debuts in Championship. Jeez folks, if we're ever to catch them it is now Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2450 - 19/04/2024 09:56:21 2538969 Link 0 |
I am feeling good about Sunday confidence up , dry pitch, Clarke and McLaughlin on 26 man squad, hopefully a good Cavan support comes out which I think will.

A positive for Sunday is that we have a game in the Championship behind us and they might take a bit of time to get up to speed…Our recent home record is deplorable but how ironic it would be to end it against a team we haven't beaten ( Championship ) for 41 years…. Tyrone will be a huge step up in quality from Monaghan who were woeful but it's worth remembering they led with 70 minutes played which is a worry .. the first half of that game was as poor in quality of a county game I have ever been at ( conditions may have played some part ) and any sort of a repeat of that by us on Sunday will mean lights out by the short whistle… We can rattle them but it must be all out from the start and we will surely need 2/3 goals again like the last game and hopefully they will come easier to us now that we discovered the nack … Roll on Sunday and hopefully a good fighting performance with nothing left behind… that's all anyone can ask….!!! Tyrone team looks ordinary enough on paper. A good opportunity for Cavan, the best in fact for a long time v Tyrone. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1121 - 19/04/2024 15:00:42 2539054 Link 0 |
Will Cavan realistically keep it below 10 points? wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1720 - 19/04/2024 18:38:58 2539107 Link 0 |
They'll have to keep Canavan and McCurry quiet otherwise that's what it could be

They will surely keep it a bit tighter than that… Tyrone have 5/6 debutants so a big test for them.. Bookies have it as a 2pt game and as we all know they don't make too many mistakes
