The response to my criticism of someone excusing 6/7 of the players from our county champions is the following.. - Ask me why i didnt play county football (why is this relevant and who said i did or didnt) - Ask me why i begrudge Ramor players celebrating their win (I didnt) - And the most negative person on these forums calls me negative. The problem in Cavan is that many of our players dont want to put in the work to get the rewards. That is their right and it is my right to call it out for what it is. Think you're being incredibly harsh. Inter county football is not a small investment, and players need to put in an unreal amount of time to it. It just doesn't suit some players, be it for work, study, or personal/family reasons. It is a pro sport in all but name in the time it takes up, and it just doesn't suit all. Every county has players asked in who can't commit, and it's something we just have to deal with, with the nature of the sport and what is required. It's not about not wanting to put the work in. County teams work incredibly hard. in fact, I'd rather they were up front about not being able to commit than try and half it. Cavan don't seem to have a plan B if Gearoid Mckiernan is bottled up. It's only McKenna cup but that's where forwards have to start showing their worth Need others to perform tomorrow. Cavan biggest and best Club in the past 20 years.... Fredfling you probally dont understand what it is like to be involved in abig Club ( like the Gaels). So some players playing for big Clubs agin like the Gaels its virtually like playing County football all year round. As we embark on potentially another unforgettable night in the park, it is important to take our own support into account. These boys have a big year ahead of them, looking to right a lot of wrongs from last year. It's important that we come out in our numbers tonight and ALL throughout the Division 4 campaign to drive the boys on. Tyrone only arrived home yesterday from their BIG holiday so there is no excuses tonight for a big performance. Really good first half here. 1-9 to 0-2. Looks like Tyrone are still on holiday, but to be fair, you still need to play who's in front of you and we're doing that. There's a few usuals on there, but that's it for them. They've hit a lot of wides, but we've taken some lovely scores. Hit some wides too, but these are the games for ironing that stuff out. it is not often that Cavan beat the current all-Ireland champions and certainly never by 15 points so that is something to celebrate but of course there are a few asterisks. Tyrone just back from holiday probably no training done reduced to 14 then 13. Cavan again were not clinical in front of goal and should have scored a couple more goals. really need to work on this aspect of our game. Cavan won most kickouts and these were mostly Tyrone's. James Smith had a great game there . Chris Conway also good in this regard, Gmac didnt need to venture back to help out so could do his stuff in the forwards. lots and lots of positives for Cavan here but make no mistake the teal Tyrone never stood up. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 12/01/2022 08:10:16 2394578 Link
Ok so Tyrone were poor but in my lifetime we have never given them a beating like that at any grade. Few things that stood out for me. One was the intent and intensity, James Smith, Gearoid, Gerry Smith and a few others ran at Tyrone and broke tackles, especially in the first half and Tyrone couldnt deal with it. Two was we got some newish players knocking over some scores - Cormac Reilly and Patrick Lynch, it wasnt all Gearoid although he was excellent again. Three great to see some of our experience players getting on the field again like Moynagh and Niall Murray. Fantastic performance by Cavan last night. Yea, Tyrone only back from holidays and missing a a lot, but as the old saying goes, you can only beat what's in front of you. I still think Tyrone thought they could come and be competitive, but Cavan were superb from start to finish and the score line could've been higher. Cavan brought intensity to the game, they transitioned the ball from defence to attack very quickly and if they can do this in the National League, I have no doubt that we'll get promoted. There was great movement in the forward line, they were quick, out in front, they looped around and kicked some great scores. A score line of 1-17 to 0-05 against the reigning All-Ireland Champions is very encouraging and it's great to see some of the younger lads getting game time, I was very impressed with the new comers to the squad, onwards and upwards. cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 12/01/2022 09:49:02 2394584 Link

Have to be happy with that. I dont think anyone will get carried away as Tyrone have spent most of the week partying in Florida but even so its good to give the all ireland champs a beatdown on their 1st day back Im enthused by the fact most of cavans big guns seem to be back and ready to take the league seriously, if we show the right commitment and respect to the league we should be getting through it with 100% record and a cup. The main plus for me was seeing more scorers get in on the act, cant be too dependent on Gearoid. Some of the guys, Jason, Oisin Kiernan, James smith, gearoid in particular have turned up in terrific shape for the season which is great to see. A good win last night. Yeah, Tyrone didn't show up but we've met teams in that boat before and struggled to get past them. We beat what was in front of us and beat them well. I do agree it would be nice to get another game. If Tyrone beat Armagh or Fermanagh beat Derry, it looks like we'll make a semi final. If not, I'm sure there'll be a challenge arranged. The team is coming together quite nicely and hopefully we can hit the ground running against Leitrim. Good win last night. Nothing to get carried away with as Tyrones heads were still in Florida. But usually was the type of game we'd find hard, and we did what we needed to. Still lots to work on, we hit a lot of wides, and we tried a few more things. It's what you want at this time of year, a good performance, with enough to bring back to the training field to develop more. It was also good to see so many 1st team players out there. We usually don't have them at this time of year, and they look raring to go. Looks like they want to give Div 4 a proper rattle, and we can go back to forgetting we were ever there when we get out of it. Which we shouldn't have been. A good league campaign will lead nicely into Antrim and then we can see from there sure. James Smith is the real deal. We missed him last year, he is so good on the ball and gives us something different, and we look more dynamic with him. Oisin Brady, Kiernan, McLoughlin were all great, don't need to say anything about what GMac brings, Conroy good too, and good to see Cormac O'Reilly and Paddy Lynch scores some nice points from play. Paddy was especially good, and even had an outrageous point chalked off for a wide when it was over all day long. We need strong scoring forwards, and hopefully we're finding them. Nothing is ever won or sorted out in January, but continuing on with a good league run could do wonders for these lads.
