Not sure what Graham will gain if anything from these matches. I was at the Bridge Lavey game at the weekend. No Caoimhin playing. No Gerry Smith playing. Conroy off with what looked like a strain after 20 minutes. Then you have Jack Brady, who started the majority of the League as a corner forward, starting at centre half back for Ramor. Just read Graham's remarks about county players being singled out in club games. This is something I absolutely agree with. It's a long time since I played club football in Cavan, but one of my abiding memories of it was the bitter jealousy and in some cases deliberate targeting of County footballers. This narrow minded and petty streak was borne out of spite because a certain player was talented enough to play for the county. I recall asking my West of Ireland college mates whether this type of thing happened in Mayo during club games, and the reply was that county players were given the height of respect. They couldn't understand why in Cavan some players were targeted just because they were talented enough to play for the county. It's certainly an issue, and I'm glad Graham has spoken about it. If a player is talented he should not be singled out for rougher treatment from fellow players by virtue of the fact that he's better than they are. There is a lot of bile directed at all players and officials from the stand and on the pitch too. I agree with Mickey Graham's words, I witnessed on a good few occasions last year in league and championship where county players were targeted for special treatment, Gearoid McKiernan especially. However on a lot of occasions it's a two way thing, there's certain county 'stars' with huge ego's getting away with murder on the pitch, maybe receive a yellow card, receive numerous warnings, but will extremely rarely be sent off, referees it seems are afraid to dismiss them. Bar Conor Dourneen who takes some pride in the job and is extremely good at it, I can't think of too many good referees at present in Cavan football. What we're witnessing week in week out is mass brawls with zero football because of the lack of control of referees. So there are 3 league rounds played, tell me what county players are injured because they were 'targeted' and who were the opponents? I believe Graham was in contact earlier in the year but Flanagan was carrying an injury at the time. I'd imagine he'll be called in. The Cavan panel started training as soon as last years senior championship ended and have been training since. Maybe fatigue from all that is the reason so many county players are out injured? Such rubbish, players may get extra attention but it's almost never in an overly aggressive manner. To me this looks like a diversion tactic from Mickey, our county team is very poor but it's all the club players fault for being too rough with them in the club games, such nonsense. Our county team is poor because they are poor, end of story. Before you ask, yes I have seen and been part of 100s of club games over the years. Poor county players with years of strength and conditioning work , tough inter-county games, tougher inter-county opponents getting bullied by club players. I've never read such nonsense in my life. Why don't we just stop playing club games altogether to protect the fragile county lads or better still, do a deal with someone for cotton wool or bubble wrap so we can wrap our fragile county players in it. Graham knows Cavan are poor and is getting his excuses out there in advance of a poor championship. Thank God I've stopped going to county games !!
