Under 17 Ulster Championship 2018

Nice to see the U 17's win a tight one last night. They seemed to be behind the pace in the Ulster League but last nigh's result would suggest that they will be competitive.

Mighty game last night in Kingscourt. Lads showed real heart to dig out the win. Well done all. This team might give us something to shout about.

Well done to the young lads, that was a very tough gruelling game. They had to overcome a tough opposition and a shocking referee. Are we back to the old ref trick if playing for the draw. 4 mins of injury time called at end of normal time and more than 7 played and then a straight red to our captain for questioning it. That ref should be kept well away from this level.

Agree about the ref. He was unbelievably bad. Is there such a thing as reporting referees for these clearly unacceptable performances? He shouldn't be allowed referee at any level again after last saturday.

Ref was listed as Stephen Campbell from Tyrone, I'm sure he didn't set out to be so one sided but playing 7 mins injury time when 4 minutes notified made it seem that he was playing until Derry equalised. Credit to cavan team and management they didn't crack under pressure and and were deserved winners after 104 minutes play. It's crazy 15 & 16 year olds playing 104 mins of football, a replay would have been fairer on these developing bodies.

Breffni Blue - what's the better option, playing extra time or another 60 minutes of football. These u17s have played enough football this year already. But I agree, its absolutely ridiculous what a 16/17 yr old have to endure now. But there's two sides here, the Ulster Council need to scrap the u17 league, complete waste of time as the games occur around the same time as College Football and County Leagues, so they dont need anymore football. However, County underage management need to take a good look at themselves, the demand the put they on these young players is far too much. They have been training for months now, have played challenge matches, Ulster League, whilst playing with their clubs and colleges also, and indeed, alot of them are involved in other sports. In addition to that, they're also expected to do gym work 4/5 times per week, not to mention their schoolwork.

The way things are going with GAA, young lads are falling out of love with the game and quitting, 75% of players aged 20 -25 are quitting games, and that will merely increase, giving that once a player becomes overage for u17 football, there's nothing for him after that.

Nice to see the boys register another victory last night. Who do they play in the semi final?

they have to wait on the round 3 qualifier games. (Fermanagh v Derry & Down v Monaghan).

I would say it will be the winner of Down v Monaghan as they have already played both Fermanagh and Derry.

Tyrone are in the other semi-final.

Thanks, for that, the format must allow for a second chance up to the Semi Final stage.

Best of luck to John Brady his management and more importantly his players next Sunday. Give us something to cheer about.

Id agree to a point, but a balance needs to be struck....you cant go into a Championship without competitive games in some sort of League format

Best of luck to the U17s tomorrow in the semi final v the neighbours, last bit of county interest this year after a hugely disappointing year at U20 and Senior levels. Im sure John Brady and his management team will keep the summer going.

Good luck to the u17s. This is going to be a really tough game. Monaghan win the Ulster league and were one of the favourites at the start. But we can take them.
