Fantastic result today, not too many if us would have chalked this fixture down for a win. Delighted to say I was wrong about Mattie and our hopes in this year's league. He's dead right to have a pop at those like me who doubted the team. He's a difficult job now as he needs to get Mackey and McKiernan game time but with the starting 15 doing so well it's hard to justify making changes. Good problems to have. This was a huge win for Cavan so well done to everyone. A trait that I am noticing over recent years is that we have an abundance for scorers rather than having a main scorer. We seemed to be cruising by half time but then let Cork back into it. That can happen. Clerkin was substituted at half time I saw - that seems to be deliberate and premeditated. I don't know what to say about promotion now as I would think 2 of our final 3 games will be the toughest. I am worried about Tipp and Roscommon but think we can beat Down in Breffni. I hope so. There has been little or no talk of promotion on here or around the county that I have heard and this is positive. What a fantastic win for the lads and off course the manager. To go to Cork, and in particular, the spectacular Park Ui Chaoimh and come away with a win is fantastic. Even more satisfying is to see the like of Fredflint and the previous managers bandwagon reeling in their feathers, they had Mattie written off after his first year. We now have an identity, we have a game plan, and thankfully, its not just purely defensive. We defend well as a unit, but whats more impressive is the speed at which we break, and in some cases, the ease at which we can take our scores. Three tough teams to play, but we will go into them with confidence. I'm not concerned about promotion and I think another year in Division 2 would do no harm, having said that, it would be nice to win a National League Division 2 title, and I've no doubt, if we got promotion to Division 1, we would be better equipped this time around. I want whats best for Cavan. The attacks on the previous manager were a vendetta driven by the treatment of one player and nothing to do with what was best for Cavan. I have always said I wanted Mattie to succeed and I am delighted to see that he appears to be well on the way to do this. The only thing you have to worry about is taking the exit for Cork and not staying on the motorway to Limerick. The ground is a good 25 minutes walk from the City, however, the locals are not noted for turning out in big numbers to follow their footballers so it should be possible to drive out towards the Stadium. I wouldn't think there would be more than a couple of thousand in attendance when the ball is thrown in. I said that this year onwards he could be judged and from what I see he has listened he is performing and getting results. He is playing the game most people enjoy and better again getting results. Lucky that the CCB did not listen to all those that wanted rid of the novice last season. The best of luck to him his team and more importantly the players may they continue to do Cavan proud. Top of the table, Division two status safe no pressure on them so why not drive on and get promotion by beating Down next weekend for starters. Terry's obsessors getting a bit ahead of themselves in their rush to imply McGleenan is doing a better job. There's still 40% of the league to go lads, we could still finish mid table having beaten the relegated teams and Cork. The league needs to be judged on the final day, not now. The lads are going well but there's undeniable pressure now. Mattie will need to have the lads mentally right for this run in. Good to see he acknowledged the fatigue visible in the second half yesterday. We need to be fresh for Saturday. The introduction of Gearoid and Cian is becoming predictable and it didn't do us any favours yesterday. Other than that, the lads are flying it and enjoying their football. Long may it continue!! If they get promotion it will be fantastic for remember we are a relegated division one team playing division two teams and promoted division three teams so their experience in Division one is standing to them let's hope they keep it going. I haven't been to a Cavan game since the exit to Tipp in last years Championship. I was so disgusted that day I swore I wouldn't travel to see them this year. (Live in Meath these days). Anyway, everyone is mentioning the speed at which we break. From my following of the commentary on recent games it seems if McVeety isn't firing our progression forward is a little more pedestrian. I hope we're not overly reliant on him. What do folks think? I must say though it's great to have such a spread of scorers. The Seanie Johnstons and Martin Dunnes in the past when man-marked often left us bereft of genuine attacking threats. So while we still look to be missing that Division 1 grade sharpshooter I'm hoping the sum of the parts is what might make us that bit more difficult to prepare against. Nobody said anything about him doing a better job. He's doing a mighty fine job at the moment. All the doubters need to relax and give credit where it's due. He's only in his 2nd year. Let's stop judging him with a previous manager who was 5 years as a manager an umpteen years as a selector. Out of our last games ,no disrespect to Down ,there not going well at the minute ,but the Tipp and Roscommon games will be hardest games left to play ,our record against the rossies is poor and they will fancie a win as will Tipp ,there flying too and knocked us out of the championship last year and will be confident of a win ,I would love a win over one of these teams and that will show improvement from last year , bisto kid (Cavan) - Posts: 492 - 26/02/2018 16:18:02 2080611 Link
