Lads, just reading through your posts and the bickering etc. that goes along with them. It is just a view but I think the general view in cavan was that a rookie manager with very little intercounty experience would come in and win Ulster. Simple facts are that cavan don't have the players at the moment and being from Monaghan I think only player who would get a run with us is mackey and even that would be as a sub. Go out and support your team and enjoy any bit of success as I can't see cavan being a force for the foreseeable future. Don't underestimate offaly big strong running side with pace.

You're right in that we don't have the players. We haven't had the players for 60 years now (bar a one season wonder in 1997). There is something seriously disjointed at the heart of Cavan football and it has been this way for decades. Before Hyland came in we had a litany of managers whom we were chopping and changing to no avail. Hyland, to his credit, got the best out of us. I didn't see that at the time, I felt we could do more and achieve more, but it's clear we just don't have the calibre of players to win anything.

As for the forum, there are a handful of status quo shills who are self appointed forum police, waiting in the wings to attack anyone who tries to diagnose the problem with Cavan football. Cavan fans have every right to be p****d off at the lack of success of the county team, but nothing will change.

60 years ? gosh that's a bit harsh. 1957 ?
I think we have won ulster a few times since then. We have also been in a few ulster finals. This currently is probably our leanest spell. when was the last time we reached sn ulster final ? 2001 ? , that's 16 years ago . is that our longest spell without contesting the provincial decider.
However There are THREE ulster teams that are very strong at the moment and we just cant seem to beat any of them.

If we had let the ball into our forwards like down did who knows what would have happened.

Down were a credit tonight... they hit Monaghan with everything all over the field and showed the guts that too many of our players simply don't have... They broke at pace and kicked ball into their forward line which is another thing we don't do... Mattie and co would do well to sit down and look at the entire match again...they might learn something ...

The greed of one player he best look in the mirror because he turned the match because it effected their goalkeeper as well with the end result from what should have been an easy point for Monaghan turned into a goal for Down. I said after our match we left it behind us and I still think the same.

The players I hope were watching it too!
Direct no nonsense football showing guts and determination, breaking at pace and letting the ball do the work.
We be crying out for this type of football this past 6 years and it takes Down a team who hadn't won a game for nearly 2 years until their last 2 league games to show us how it can be done .
Fair play to them . I hope they give Tyrone a good rattle.

Huge congratulations to Down, our players and management could learn a lot from looking at the football Down played, no defensive nonsense, no basketball, attacked at every opportunity and sheer will and determination got them over the line. Delighted for long suffering Down supporters, into an Ulster final now where anything is possible.

They were well beaten by Monaghan last year 16/17 points but they bounced back playing attacking football. Give credit where credit is due.
We have stood still for 5 years in the Ulster championship .
Certainly haven't learned anything from playing the same opposition year after year.
Heart , guts , will to win, chase every ball , attack at every opportunity , kick the ball forward , all this is needed to win.
Have we got all this??....... in our dreams!

They tore into Monaghan and showed that Monaghan were over rated. We stood of them and broke far too slow. We have nobody in our full forward line who is an outlet for the kick pass like Down but do on bench and a fully fit McVeety. Tyrone are a different animal and will beat them in my opinion by at least 6 points. And I think it was 19 points difference last year.

Defensive nonsense? They had 14 players behind the ball for most of the game. In the last ten minutes they had 15 behind the ball. They caught monaghan on the break.

....and when they got the ball they broke like lightening ...not like our slow coaches passing the ball backwards and across the field... When Monaghan had the ball they tackled like demons and but for a few dodgy frees given by a poor sub ref to let Monaghan back in the game they would have won more easily...
